Swelling in legs and inflamed veins

Hi all,

Well I’m now through augmentation and completely off pramepexole and it’s been quite a journey.

I’m seeing if anyone out there has suffered with swollen lower legs and feet after coming off pramepexole. I’ve also got phlebitis and my legs look horrible with purple/blue veins popping up.

I’d really appreciate any feedback you may have.

I’m also still taking Longtec, oxycodin and shorter oxycodene (hope I’ve got it the right way round)

Could it be this making such a fluid build up!

I’m having checks on my kidneys and liver, this Thursday.

Thanks x

Well done for getting through withdrawal. I got swelling of lower legs & ankles from pregabalin- it’s common if you’re taking Gabapentin or pregabalin. I can’t think what could be causing it. Oxycodone doesn’t usually cause fluid retention. Are you taking any other meds?

Yes Gabapentin 900 mg daily

Gabapentin is the most likely culprit. How long have you been taking it? I found the swelling reduced after 3 months. It is a common side effect of pregabalin & Gabapentin.

Interesting. Have you only just experienced the swelling? I wonder if the pramipexole counteracted the Gabapentin & when you came off it, the Gabapentin side effect then manifested.

You could try asking Dr Buchfuhrer by email. He replies quite quickly - his email is

As he deals with thousands of RLS patients & is familiar with all the side effects of pramipexole & Gabapentin, he may be able to advise you.

I just came off premipoxle and on Rotingine patches bows my legs are fine except tingling under my feet which I think with acid build in my stomach just fed up from lifdont know wheat to do

I suspect that the problem with your legs is nothing to with your RLS or medication.

It appears to be a circulatory problem.

I should consult a doctor

Thank you Martha. I am seeing my doctor. All this happened as I was withdrawing from premepexole so initially it was just something else to cope with. He’s now investigating my kidney and liver functions.
