IcyHot is not perfect, RLS still bothers me -not everyday, though- but it is the best thing I have found so far. A while after putting it on, I start feeling better and I am finally able to fall asleep. Sometimes it takes longer and I have to repeat the process. I use the one that comes in an applicator because it keeps my hands clean.

About IcyHot for RLS
Thanks for posting but we cannot buy Icy Hot in the UK. Post & VAT charge from USA would make it very expensive for us.
I think we have similar menthol heat creams here in the UK.
Lidocaine is a local anaesthetic. Also known as lignocaine.
It's a synthetic substance related to cocaine.
Sorry Jools, it's available as IcyHot in the UK e.g. from ebay.
Similar to Emla cream, used tio ease the pain of having an injection.
I don't know if there's any menthol in it. if there is, it's the lidocaine that's the active ingredient, not menthol.
It numbs nerves! - - - for a short while.
You may be right, Manerva, it's probably the lidocaine but I have also tried the "twin" that's called Aspercreme which is exactly the same, they even look the same, except it does not have menthol in it. Both, IcyHot and Aspercreme, are very good for pain. However Aspercreme has never done anything to help my RLS. Am I crazy? I don't understand anything anymore. I could scream. That's what this horrible thing does for you.. 😢
If the icyhot does give you some relief, then it doeasn't really matter, I guess, why it works.
Others find that other things that act locally, e.g. magnesium gel, give some relief to symptoms.
However they don't prevent symptoms. occurring, they just relieve them temporarily when they do occur.
I see you're thinking of other options, acupuncture or seeing a neurologist.
If you want a remedy that might prevent symptoms, without taking a prescribed medication, perhaps the first thing to consider is if you have any deficiency particularly iron, but also magnesium, vitamin B12, D and E.
The other major preventative is to avoid anything that might "trigger" symptoms. If your RLS is intermittent, only occurs occasionally, then there may be something you're doing or ingesting oo the occasions when symptoms do occur.
Other triggers include quite a long list of other medications. If you take any other medication, for whatever readin either regularly or now and again, it may be making your symptoms worse.
Apologies- you’re absolutely right Manerva. Sounds useful- distraction for RLS & pain relief for sports injuries.
Hi, I am suffering with RLS , I have heard from time, but from what you said ICY Hot crud help you, I tried it,, but nothing happend, I sometimes have to get up and walk the house, and other times it is fine. I use Restless legs and seems to work not always though.
Any other hints to keep me sleeping.
