I have FINALLY found some RELIEF!

Hello all, I have suffered with RLS all my life, from as young as I can remember. However, it has got especially worse over the last 3 years. Every night it would be triggered as soon as I got into bed and tried to sleep. This clearly had a huge knock on effect on the amount and the quality of my sleep and I'd be almost permanently tired and frustrated. I'd take hours to nod off and it would constantly wake me up and then I'd suffer hours more tossing and turning. It has ruined several sets of lovely bed sheets and impacts on my husband's sleep too. It got so bad that eventually, at the end of last year, I decided to visit my GP about it, feeling completely at a loss. Cue a lengthy process of fortnightly blood tests over the next 4-5 months (which threw up a few other things, which made that even more invasive and my RLS almost got side-lined in the process). Then we went into lockdown.

As an aside, I'm very physically active and I workout a lot. Prior to lockdown, I'd have regular remedial massage to help ease my tight and knotty muscles. As I didn't have access to this, my body started to feel incredibly tight and sore and I went searching for some remedies outside stretching and hot epsom salt baths (which I do religiously). I stumbled across these acupuncture mats (specifically the Shakti mat) and read review after review from people it had helped soothe sore muscles but also that it helped stimulate deep and restful sleep! I purchased a mat (for the cost of a massage c£45) and looked forward to unwinding my tight muscles. But in the back of my mind, I also wondered if it might help ease my now chronic RLS...?

All I can say is....WOW! After 37 years of suffering, using my Shakti mat EVERY night for an hour before bed has TRANSFORMED my RLS, my sleep in general and has also helped eased my tight muscles. I would say, in the 4 weeks I have been using this mat, my RLS has improved around 80% if not more. I have had only ONE night when my RLS was bad. I am utterly gobsmacked. I had resigned myself to the fact this was just getting worse and worse and I was probably going to end up going down the line many of you already have, with medication. Sometimes, with no long-term relief and with unfavourable side effects. My friends and family, who know just how badly I suffer with my RLS, are amazed I seem to have found an alternative to medication, that has offered me such a HUGE relief.

I don't know whether this post is allowed. There are a number of these types of prickly mats available to buy online (I chose Shakti based on their ethical business approach and not price point). But I cannot recommend them enough. I thoroughly look forward to my magic mat time each evening and because I've used it regularly, every night, the cumulative effects are benefitting me no end. I don't think I've ever nodded off so quickly, nor slept so deeply and without my RLS causing me any real problems. Don't get me wrong, my RLS has not disappeared, but it by no means causes me the same amount of DAILY grief since I started using the Shakti mat. It's worth it's weight in gold!

Hi, Could you post again in a few months time about your mat? It's sounds fantastic that you are helped so much but is it a short term thing I wonder. I read somewhere that RLegs can improve sometimes then return with a vengeance. I sincerely hope it continues to work for you as others on the forum will be equally delighted if you continue to get relief.

😀

I absolutely can report back later down the line. But for now, 4 solid weeks of respite was worth £45!! Even if it was all to end tonight...I will keep you posted ☺️

Delighted that you’ve found something that works for you. As you say, £45 is roughly the cost of a massage so definitely worth a punt. Do you lie on it for an hour on the floor or on the bed? I hope it continues to give you relief.

Hi, I lie on my back on it, in bed. Because of my tight shoulders from my training, I roll up a towel and put it under one end so as to target my neck and shoulders. I’ve also rested my calves on it a few times too & also rest my feet on it when I’m sat down sometimes. That definitely smarts more. And sometimes when I lie on the mat my legs actually get a little restless but not always. But the pure joy of falling asleep afterwards with only very light restlessness is an absolute gift! I hope it continues to help me (I will keep you posted) but I wanted to share my experience with this group because I am genuinely gobsmacked how much it has helped me.

Hey this is great news. I hope it continues to work for you.

Please keep us posted. :-)

Having read the reviews ( I just read the 2 and 3 stars) I reckon I don't want to be a glorified pincushion. And I'm scared stiff of any form of needles.

Sorry-- I would have loved it to have worked.

The prickles only last a few minutes before it turns to a warmth & then it just feels really relaxing. My sister-in-law (also in her 30s) suffers chronic Rheumatoid Arthritis, for which she is heavily medicated & now uses one & says how she feels like she’s had a deep massage after lying on it. I would be lying if I said it was comfortable right off the bat. Read some of the Shakti reviews too. It’s not for everyone, but I’m so glad I gave it a try (& got relief from my RLS as a secondary benefit!)

I am unbelievably excited for you, such a great thing to have found some relief and not from medication. I am definitely going to give it a bash and thank you so much for sharing.

Is this an advertisement?

What you wrote sounds like and advertisement rather than a normal post.

in reply towickedrls

It doesnt sound like a adverstisement to me. The poster hasnt posted any link to the mat, only to say where it can be bought, and that there are several different mats available and said which one they are using.

It did not sound like an advertisement to me or it would have been deleted.

There is a difference between advertising a product and letting others in our community know how something has helped them.

Not an advertisement....a suggested aid that seems to have helped my RLS enormously. I would have assumed the post would have been removed otherwise. But good to have a healthy skepticism!
