thyroid
Yes, RLS may well be a by effect of the underactive thyroid. I hope for you it is. If the RLS proves to be idiopathic (no specific reason) it is far harder to treat. Now, most likely that if you have the underactive thyroid treated the RLS may go and stay away.
I'm now getting my thyroxine increased I'm now on 75. but alternate days as doc is taking baby steps I'm hoping in 2 months time he will put it to 75 daily. .then after 6 months up ot to100
I hope you don’t have wait that long for the RLS to disappear.
RLS is one of the consequences of an underactive thyroid gland.. As Lotte says, if your RLS is due to your hypothyroid then taking levothyroxine should relieve it.
Whether or not you're "undermedicated" or not will depend on your blood test results, hopefully you are due one soon. It does take a while to get the dose of L thyroxine right, anything up to a year. It also depends on the cause of your hypothyroid i.e. whether it is the gland itself or whether it's a problem with your pituitary gland.
Another factor which causes RLS in some people is low iron stores. This can be tested by a serum "Ferritin" test. Anything above 12 is normal, but.for someone who suffers RLS it has to be at least 50 and some experts say at least 100.
my ferretin is 'normal'but rather on the low side . as is,everything else, my vit d was non existence (just had tests. but also had private test in april as was feeling really crap )
tgab was out of range so hashimoto's. now I found a doc that is actually believing me along with links on my fone my vit d is up and I'm getting supplements for the other stuff
I think you should get the thyroid problem treated as my wife has that & without the tablets she is on she is a mess just a bit off advice hope you don’t mind x
