Yes, RLS may well be a by effect of the underactive thyroid. I hope for you it is. If the RLS proves to be idiopathic (no specific reason) it is far harder to treat. Now, most likely that if you have the underactive thyroid treated the RLS may go and stay away.

You shouldn't have to wait 6 months before another thyroid test and increase in dose. It's usually recommended to wait 6 to 8 weeks. 6 months sounds a tad cruel!

RLS is one of the consequences of an underactive thyroid gland.. As Lotte says, if your RLS is due to your hypothyroid then taking levothyroxine should relieve it.

Whether or not you're "undermedicated" or not will depend on your blood test results, hopefully you are due one soon. It does take a while to get the dose of L thyroxine right, anything up to a year. It also depends on the cause of your hypothyroid i.e. whether it is the gland itself or whether it's a problem with your pituitary gland.

Another factor which causes RLS in some people is low iron stores. This can be tested by a serum "Ferritin" test. Anything above 12 is normal, but.for someone who suffers RLS it has to be at least 50 and some experts say at least 100.
