Would do but my gp won't prescribe without hospital consultant recommendation

Have you a Neurologist who could write to your GP asking for it to be prescribed? Thakfully my GP prescribed it. It may be because it is expensive x

Yes, gp lovely but it's cost. Consultant discharged me after one visit and asked gp to prescribe gabapentin as and when I needed it! Seeing gp again today though to discuss options. Am on gabap 400mg 3x a day at moment and will try increasing, but am pushing for another referral. Oh the joys of rls!

I am on them now. 2mg patch and it works great with minimal side effects. Would recommend it all the time.

I used them for about 18 months, can't say l was impressed, but hey everyone different but when augmentation set in, which was a living nightmare. The patches come under DA listing so l weaned myself off them and lm so much better now. Perhaps Neupro patch will work for yourself. I remain on gabapentin and codeine at bedtime. I wish you luck on which ever meds you take for this cruel disease

How many Mgs was your patch?

Hi, yes l was on 2mgs then l reduced to lmgs, l augmented on the 1mg, that was awful, but we aren't all alike, some people are very happy with the patch

I am also on the Nupro patch have come of Tramodol , the nights I was having I couldn’t see how anything was working, now trying the cbd oils and having success let’s see how long it works , but so nice to get a whole nights sleep

I am on Neupro 2mg They have worked the best, as I have tried literally everything else. However stay on as low a dose as possible as augmentation does eventually occur.

in reply toAnnieapple

How long have you been on it? I just started on 2mg, and it works well

I have been on it since June 2016 on the same 2mg. However augmentation setting in last 6 months but I have nothing left to use...been on everything and different combinations...so I use codeine now when it’s very bad...the bad patches come in cycles.I do still have cycles of good nights. I will try at some point to to have a “drug holiday” & then go back on it again. However my life is too busy for withdrawal effects at the moment!

This disease is beyond awful. Keep me posted.

Will do. Do you take anything else beside using the patch?

I’ve been on Neupro 4 mg for 6 months. It’s the only drug I’ve taken that doesn’t seem to really mess with my head the next day. I have gone through some quirky behavior such as lotto scratch fever, collecting various things like bracelets from Italy! I try often to ween off it but then the 40 hour niteday happens...again.

Yes, I used neupro for a few years, from 1 mg up to 4 mg. The side effects were too much for me (unsettling, disturbing dreams and loud noises when my brain would shut down that sounded like someone was breaking in my home, pounding on the front door) and it did not keep episodes away. The only drug that's worked for me is Methadone. Did you have a question about Neupro?

No I use Balneum cream it works ok for me

Hi Cathy, yes I did try Neupro patches but then found that they caused my muscles to start breaking down- Rhabdomyolysis- which can be life threatening so had to come off them. It's not a common reaction at all so don't worry about it happening to you, but it's as well to know that these things can happen! Good luck with finding what works.

I echo what has also been said, start with the lowest dose possible and dont' increase; watch out for augmentation. :)

I developed RLS after taking LIpitor (any statin) for about 5 years. My muscles and nerves were starting to die. Now I am left with RLS.....I was wondering if I could develop a problem with the Neupro patches? Do you know if there is any relation to statin problems and Neupro? Any thoughts I would love to hear. Thanks.

Hi btthemd, I developed the same problem after about 6 weeks on Neupro patches. My legs were extremely painful and muscles ached all the time in the last week i was on them. There is a tiny chance of it happening, i read the literature and only in one site did it mention an increase in the enzyme resulting from muscle breakdown. I went to my GP and he took me off the patch straight away! Since then, the pain has gone. I hope this helps.

yep i tried it once never ever again omg worked great for about a week or 9 days then all hell broke loose i didn't sleep at all for 5 nights and then another 5 night while it got out my system RLS went crazy as well as my thoughts , I know meds work differently for everyone that's one of the problems with RLS what works for one doesn't for another or they work for so long then RLS starts going bananas (them curvy yellow things lol your lucky i typed it yik....) I truly hope it works for you like it has for others i'll keep me fingers cross for you x

I switched from Ropinirole to the 4mg patch+3x300mg Gaba some years ago and it did the trick for me. However around 4 months ago I developed itchy skin at the sites where the patches were placed, that I was scratching in my sleep. This was severe enough to break the surface of the skin and thus reduce the patch's effect to the point where their efficacy was severely compromised. So I'm back on Ropinirole (1.5mg at 4pm followed by 2mg at 10.30pm) which is working for now, but I'd like to get back on Neupro at some point in the future, as they offer true 24-hr relief. That's my experience, but I realise that it doesn't work for everyone. Good luck to all!

I was on Neupro patch 3mg. It was fantastic until about 6 mos. later when I started having an allergic reaction and hot spots all over. I had to quit using it and am now on 3mg Ropinirole ER tabs once a day along with 600mg Horizant once a day. I am also taking iron supplements 2x daily. This seems to work the best for me right now. Fingers crossed.

I too loved the full 24 hr. relief I got from the Neupro patch, but found I had to take it around 6am every morning in order for it to be most effective during times I definitely needed to sleep.
