Hello, another question of the 24 hours , when is the patch most potent vs. Least potent, I know it takes 3,4 hours to take effect. I would like to insure i'm asleep during the most potent time?

Theoretically, patches constantly deliver a particular amount of medication at a fixed rate.

The first time a patch is used it might take some hours to build up to a maximum level in the bloodstream, but after they are supposed to maintain that level. Theoretically then, there should be no most potent and least potent times.

If a 24 hour patch is replaced within 24 hours, then there may not even be a build up period.

There are some factors which might change the rate of delivery and absorption e.g. if you get hotter or colder, if the patch becomes loose and if your metabolism changes, i.e. as it does over a 24 hour circadian cycle.

That's the theory, but in practice, I would imagine there is a more potent period shortly after applying the patch and a lesser potent period nearer the end of the 24 hour period. There shouldn't be too great a variation as that would defeat the object of having them.

So it would seem logical to replace patches in the evening.

A neurologist told me to put the new one on when I go to bed so that is what I do.

Hello! My neurologist didn’t tell me when the best time to change the patch would be, so I’ve been experimenting with timing. I have found that a few hours before bed works best.

I have also found that, for me, the patch starts to lose effectiveness a couple hours before the 24-hour mark.

I have experimented with different times for changing the patch over the last 2 years. This was mainly due to travelling in different time zones. I live in the UK but travel to the USA and to Canada to visit my kids. The earlier I replace the patch before bedtime the better it seems to work. 5pm is my routine at home. However when I travel I stick to UK time as well which means in Miami I change it at midday. Works well!
