Neupro patch

Hi all. I've been using the Neupro patch for a couple of weeks now - 1mg, however it doesn't seem to be working. How long should it take to work? Will I need to up the dose, (not mad keen on that due to potential for side-effects at a higher dose.

All suggestions welcome.

Many thanks

I am on 6 mg. It usually works for me with the odd day bad for some unknown reason.

You can take up to 3 mg of the patch for rls. After augmenting on .50 mg of pramapexole, I switched to 2 mg of the patch but to no avail. I seemed to have

augmented on that also and must now stop it.

At what dose did you guys start to get relief I've yet to see much difference but don't want to race up the doses if I can at all avoid it. So do I give it a month or two to become effective?

Many thanks for the responses

I got some relief immediately at 2 mg but it didn't last past the

first few nights. I raised the dose to 4 mg with the same result,

a positive response that wasn't sustainable. I still take 2 mg

of the augmented patch but am going to Johns Hopkins

to find out how to get off the drug and what to take in the future.

See that's part of my fear - you have to race up through he dose and before you know it - augmentation :(

raffs if the 1mg dose was going to work, it would have by now. You can go up to a 2mg then a 3mg patch. But if you really dont want to do that, you could try to add another class of med along side it, which might help it work. Maybe a Tramadol if you can take that med, not everyone can, or Gabapentin, or any other type of med. Sometimes, taking two or three different class of meds can help, and it can keep the dosage down. So small dosage of all of them.

Thanks Elisse spot on as always.

I was wondering about the patch as the Mirapexin worked straight away.

The Dr isn't a fan of Tramadol and I am currently waiting for the Pain Clinic, ( 11 months down 2 more to wait!! :( ). The Gabapentin didn't do anything for me when I tried it before, admittedly not in conjunction with the patch.

Will call Dr tomorrow and see if I can get the higher dose.

Thanks again.

The pain clinic will most likely to be more up for letting you take Tramadol. Shame you have to wait 2 more months.

If there hadn't been a mix up in the referral I would have been seen already. Not madly over joyed about going back that way but at this stage ANYTHING for an easier life.

You think with the through flow of complaints and pains GP's would have a reasonable grasp on that sort of thing, it does transcend most conditions.

Hi raffs, sorry you aren't getting any relief from the Neupro patch. It helped mecfrom the first night but the official line is it takes 3 days to build up to full strength. Therefore after a couple of weeks you should have had some benefit by now if it is going to work for you.You still have the 2mg and 3mg to try but like the rest of the meds the patch does not work for everyone.I do take it alongside painkillers though so maybe it wouldn't work for me by itself I dont know .I put my new patch on daily at 6pm then take my painkillers at 6.30.Between them they work majority of days but like most I still get some breakthrough .However it is mild in comparison to being without the patch. My biggest problem is my skin reacts badly to the adhesive.Good luck..Pipps

Thanks Pipps, just wish my GP was as knowledgeable/understanding as those on here.

It should have worked right away. Up the dose and if that doesn't work, go to a dopamine agonist such as requip or maripex.

in reply to Windwalker

Cheers Windwalker. I am now wearing two patches so two more days and hopefully relief - I'm off to find a volcano to sacrifice a virgin at in order for the patches to work :)

Take care all.

Dont bother to find that volcano, two should work straight away. I am thinking if the two are not working then the patch isnt for you.

in reply to

The virgins are safe!!

OK so been wearing two patches for two nights and I am taking half the kratom in two doses and the legs are quiet.

In fact I must have needed to increase the kratom as the Neupro patch has me more at rest than I have been over the last couple of months.

Thank Jesus, Buddha, Allah and all the Hindu Gods!! Now on the down side has people got a lot of nausea on the increase? I've been up form about 4-6 this morning being sick. However if that's what I have to face for the legs then so be it.

Many many thanks to all here who has helped. Elisse you are a star and thank you to all who took the time to reply.

I) will order some more kratom to have for when the patches fail then I can swap for a bit and HOPEFULLY use the two alternately to given me as long a period free from restlessness.

raffs, glad to hear the virgins are safe... :P I have been sick before when i used the patch a while ago now. But it was only the once and i was on the 3mg patch. I am back on the 1mg patch right now. There is a tablet here in the UK which can be used for the nausea but you need a prescription for it now, it USED to be a OTC tablet, but seems they found some people were having heart problems from it. Its called Motilium10, and its pretty safe to take regarding not upsetting your RLS. I have taken it a few times in the past and still have a few left from when i got mine OTC. Otherwise maybe drink some ginger tea, ginger is good for nausea. But, hopefully the nausea will pass. Just a small tip, try to not wait til the patches fail before switching. Try a drug holiday now and then so the patch resets before it fails. Good Luck.

Thanks for the advise Elisse. What sort of time scale would you recommend - if the patches last 6 months take a break for ....?

Hmmmmm, probably a month off them, more if you can. But you would likely get withdrawals when you stop them. Drug holidays dont work for everyone, but worth trying before augmentation sets in. As we always say, everyone is different. :)

How long would you be on the patches before you take the holiday?
