May you have a peaceful future.

Welcome to the clan. A number of people have found that sugar is the problem. I've been sugar free for almost a year and a half. I've also cut out bread which I found was a minor cause. Apparently it contains fructans, small molecules which appear like fragments of fructose. Apart from no rls, I now sleep much better as well.

Like you i have had to stop sugar . However yesterday i went on a coach trip with my mother and a dozen or so of the ladies where she lives. Anyway we decided to have an ice cream as a treat and it was a lovely day. All the way home on the coach my right leg drove me insane so the motto is no more ice creams for me. I hate that our condition rules our lives so badly !!!!!

After 18 months off the sugar and with the aid of adding kelp tablets (for the iodine), to help myelin regeneration, I found recently that an increased tolerance to a rare ingestion of sugar.

I resisted giving up sugar for years. I gave up caffeine, salt, alcohol and then added all the things that could help like iron and B vitamins etc. Give up sugar... you must be joking how would that help. WELL, how wrong I was. finally I had two occasions where I ate something really sugary and went through hell with my RL so thought 'well, I may as well try just for a week or two!' That was about 3 years ago and now I see it as one of the best things I've given up for many health reasons. However, like Oscarsaurus, I do hate how RL does rule my life so much. Good luck with no sugar, it certainly seems to be a part of the answer for me... I just wish I could find the other pieces of the puzzle! :)

OH, and just as a PS I also cut out gluten and dairy and almost immediately had relief from inflammation from my arthritis, the pain from which triggers my RL so a great benefit. I'm now on the Monash FODMAP diet to see what other foods might trigger my legs and my arthritis which are linked. It seems to be a matter of searching constantly for ways to keep the devil at bay! :)

Too many nightshades, like chilies, peppers, aubergines and potatoes can cause inflammation in some people which might make them more susceptible to rls. Vit B12 is an anti inflammatory.

I know my B12 was really low when i had my bloods tested last so fingers crossed next week for the results of my recent blood test, i should find out next Wednesday .

I eat lots of sugar. I’m addicted for sure. I have bad RLS but I get it no matter what! I want to quit sugar, but not that easy

Try giving up, you'll never regret it. If giving up doesn't work then there will be nothing lost, except perhaps a little weight.
