Has anyone had any sustained relief on the ketogenic (keto) diet? I've read it has benefits for various neurological conditions and would be interested to hear if anyone on this forum has tried it.

Ketogenic diet
Yes I found that sweetened foods triggered my rls, so I loosely follow the Wahls Protocol which is a modified paleo diet and low carb, close to ketogenic diet. I very rarely suffer from rls these days and when I do it's mild. Also it's great for sleep. I fall asleep in less than 5 minutes after going to bed these days.
Sadly not me. I followed strict paleo for a year & it did nothing- then modified it by deleting onions & garlic to make it low FODMAPS for further 6 months. Lost loads of weight ( which could do without as already on the too slim side). Then tried vegan diet for 8 months ( lots of carbs) & actually had a slight improvement but it didn’t last.
Weirdly, I find my RLS is much better when I have had a glass of alcohol in the evening and a treat ( like a cream cake). This goes against everything that others have found.
I concluded that specific diets made no overall difference for me BUT there are many who find it does help. You’ll have to find if it works for you by trial & error.
I hope you’re one of the lucky people.
You have nothing to lose by giving it a go. Good luck.
My guess would be that everyone's reaction to eating keto is as different as their gut biome. It seems that you have more beneficial bacteria that thrive on carbs, while I for example have carb loving bacteria which cause problems for me. Gut biomes are extremely different from individual to individual, and I imagine if someone's gut is very healthy and stable that diet may not make any difference at all!
I'm keto for 2.5 years and hasn't helped rls at all. But I do for weight loss and health.
