Any thing sugary can be a trigger for RLS, for some people, makes no difference to my RLS. Is the 3mg patch working or not. ?

Diet can make a difference for SOME people finding what your triggers are and avoiding them. You need to be using the patch for 24hrs for it to work fully. I hope i am wrong but i am almost sure you are augmenting on the patch. You changed from Pramipexole ? to the patch after the Pramipexole stopped working, did your symptoms become worse taking the Pramipexole ? Start earlier than normally, didnt let you sleep so well.

Pramipexele was great to start with...been on it a few years , things got worse. Dr took me off pramipexele and onto patches, no winding down. Sleep what's that....not so bad last few days. Last week I went 4 nights no sleep.

Hi, then from what you have said... things got worse on the Pramipexole, the patch will not help... things will get worse. The 3mg patch will probably work for a while then you will be back to your RLS, stopping you sleeping. I hate to tell you all this, but you need to know. If this is the case, the you will have to get off the patch by weaning and NOT take another dopamine med. You will need to take a different class of med .

Fizzy drinks should read " diet free" meaning - don't touch them if you wish to avoid an attack of the fizzy wizzies.

Loads of foods are triggers for rls.

Keeping a diary is a useful excercise.

Cheers.

I have found with 100% certainty that diet drinks are a trigger for me.

Strict Mediterranean Diet for me without the wine and lots of water works in my favour for all round health.

Pretty sure any fizzy drinks not good....whether sugar free or not.....sugar or chemicals don't help...but annoying when out socially as only water or sparkling water...and is sparkling water ok?? Tried vegetable juice, carrot juice but not always available.

Think I'll stick to tap water ! I occasionally have a gin and tonic......no tonic ? What a life....no chocolate ...doctor said , that's a no go area , would drive you to drink !! Can't drink wine as I have a yeast intolerance.....oh dear that makes me sound like I have a drink problem !!

Glad I found this website, helps to talk to people who understand the ups and downs of rsl.

We need to come up with suitable drinks that suit RLS sufferers...water is boring!!

Hi pilateskid,

I’ m no expert but I did hear that artificial sweeteners can be a trigger for some and they are for me so that may be the case with your fizzy.

Good luck with getting sorted .

Yes Diet is the key to RLS for some people, or perhaps many people.

I sent a long list by private message which included details of the fodmap diet that has been very successful for me. If RLS is really a problem for you try the FODMAP diet for 3 months but apply it absolutely strictly. Others have found that going vegan can be very good. You have to try everything that's available and see if anything helps or alternatively just decide to take whatever drugs the doc gives you and accept the side effects. The drugs work for 20 years for many people. If they work they are easy.

The medicines are a bit of a lottery because most doctors are just going by the text book and I think the book was written with up to date knowledge in about 1950.

Doctors really haven't a clue but I suppose they don't have time to read up on rsl and plm. I read your list a lot to take in, thanks.

I know I NEED to change my diet and my lifestyle. One ex: I'm low on Vitamin D. I know that triggers RLS.

Fact: Several factors caused me to be indoors most of the day. Yet, I KNOW, sunlight is one source of Vitamin D.

Bottom line: Many conscientious people lead very healthful lives. However, if we are having non-life-threatening health issues, the first thing we all need to address is diet and exercise..

.without having to eat strict and boring diet, or engage in marathons. Under and hour of exercise causing u to sweat 3X, a week over a few months brings major physical improvement. Cutting out sugar alone makes a dramatic difference....even if u start out giving it up for one week.

Completely stopped caffiene about 6 weeks ago. The good - about 60% less RLS:) trouble. The bad - I hate decaff tea (although decaff green tea is slightly less awful) and just cannot cope with decaff instant coffee:(

Caffeine and chocolate seem to trigger my R.L.S. sugar does not trigger my R.L.S only caffeine. so I get decaffeinated coffee and I try to eat as little or no chocolate. also, I try not to drink tea as much as like drinking tea I can't because of the caffeine even though it has less than coffee it still triggers it. also a vicious circle the more I am on my feet and exercising the more my R.L.S triggers at night. it seems that (people say exercise will help R.L.S but through exercise is not going to help and so I'm going to my doctors to see if swimming may be an option ( no weight on my legs and so fewer R.L.S nights, will keep you informed if it works.)
