Anyone tried just changing diet to control RLS? I’ve discovered a few things that trigger my RLS. For ex. Caffeine, dairy, wheat, carbonated beverages. What have others done

Many have. Use the search bar to find info and experience on the forum re e.g. sugar, FODMAP, glutenfree, vegan.

Everyone seems to have their own individual reaction to triggers.

Foods are hugely important - as you've discovered.

Some have gone nuts over Veganism with great reports.

Others keep a diary of their intakes , and come up with their own charter.

You are on the right road and hopefully will achieve full peace of legs eventually.

Thanks for sharing the news!

Consider getting a ferritin test as well- should be around 100 if it's to help rls. But not necessarily true for all.

Cheers.

I have discovered that a buildup of sugar over several consecutive days can set off my legs.

I've gone Vegan with great results - I had tried cutting different things out but it was easier to go Vegan. I cannot recommend it enough. A little planning can result in a lot of relief.

Hi Raffs, I've tried it for a couple of weeks but i'ts made no difference. How long did it take before you noticed an improvement in your symptoms?x

in reply to Jumpey

I think it was 2 -3 weeks but that is a guess, I have ME and that has left me with a poor memory.

How strict were you? Many margarines contain milk solids and'potato' crisps have milk in them, along with Gluten. OH BTW I am gluten free also, that may add to it too.

I was strict. I've been veggie for 40+ years and was vegan for 10 of that so I'm very food label aware. I'm going to try gluten free again. I tried it for 3 weeks but again it didn't improve my RLS symptoms. Perhaps I need to do it for longer. x

Yeah, worth trying the gluten free approach, it wont hurt :)

When you consider the potent drugs we take, a vegan and gluten free diet for a month or two is worth a try.

Today I’ve visited the rlcure.com webpage. Non medical. Diet and herbs with explanations of their role in the brain and body. I eat around half of the items suggested and my RLS has greatly improved. It made sense to me.

Hope it helps somebody on here.

Absolutely no alcohol, cut down on sugar. Its interesting to read about people fidning the vegan diet helpful.

Yes. My partner reduced his sugar and coffee intake and he sleeps better.

Hi all. Has anyone here been prescribed methadone as treatment for severe RLS. If so how did that work for you

Have you been prescribed methadone, crazzyleggs? It is used habitually by the doctors in Johns Hopkins and by Dr Buchfuhrer in Southern California (world leaders in rls treatment). How are your experimentations with diet going?

Hi Involuntary. Yes and it made me throw up, my kidneys stopped functioning, my sodium level dropped to a dangerously low level. I had convulsions, broke my teeth and I spent a month in ICU I can’t remember most of it but It certainly didn’t work for me. There has to be a better way

Wow; that must have been awful. Sorry you had to go through that.

I presume you are in US. It would be very unusual to have it prescribed here.

I notice you suggest dietary changes in one of your posts. It does seem worth exploring diet as many have a very positive outcome that way.
