Need relief
Hi
Check out the pinned post re iron/ferritin levels as a starter.
Some other medication can affect RLS, there is a list on here somewhere which I’m hoping someone else has a quick link to!
There are many different things that people swear by on here..we’re all different and helped/affected by different things.
If you can’t find non-med relief don’t discount medication...sleep deprivation is a terrible thing!
Good luck with the search
I’ve just read your reply to another message and see that you’re on an antidepressant...some of these can definitely cause RLS issues.
Hi and welcome!
I understand your reluctance to medicines. If I could, I wouldn’t be on any!
Here is a list of non-medical remedies in my arsenal. Maybe you can find something on here of interest to you?:
-support stockings
-magnesium oil
-Relaxing Leg Cream by Magnilife. This can be gotten at Walgreens (if in the States) and on Amazon.
-RLS-specific Rife Frequencies. These are like binaural beats and have the theory that different bodily symptoms respond to different musical frequencies, hence the need for the RLS-specific ones. You can find some 10-minute sessions by typing “Rife Frequencies RLS” into Youtube.
-jet-spray massage (shower head option) pounded right up against every inch of my legs
-a hot shower right before bed
-self-massage of the legs using various methods ( hands, massage ball with rubber spikes, and a hand-held heated massager).
-foot sauna (although sometimes the vibration that shoot through the legs are enough to start an attack. Other times not, so it’s quite frustrating to have this inconsistency)
-3 exercises found halfway down this webpage:
healthline.com/health/restl...
-a weighted blanket. I ordered one of these from sensorygoods.com and it is 10% my body weight (although the recommended weight given on that site is 10% your weight plus 1 pound). It works well at keeping me in bed through my lighter attacks. Unfortunately, more intense ones and my legs move anyway. I find that it helps with anxiety as well.
I think the list that Lapsedrunner is referring to is this one:
rlshelp.org/. Once here, click on the link to “RLS Medical Alert Card”
Is this the right one, Lapsedrunner?
I hope this helps somewhat!
If you're not on a low carb diet, try one. I follow the Wahls Protocol, and sleep well un til my bladder wakes me. I can then fall back to sleep for another 3 hours quite easily. When I wasn't sleeping well I found that listening to relaxing music would help. That became a habit, but these days I rarely get past the first tune, let alone the first album. One of the worst culprits amongst the carbs I found to affect sleep was bread. It's all about the way high blood sugar attacks the nervous system, form receptors in your legs and arms to your brain.
Lots of squats. Vibro plate machine, knees bent.
There are all kinds of food triggers for RLS - we are all different! It might be worth keeping a food diary. I also find that when I get an attack in the evenings bouncing on an exercise ball helps me.
