Dr. Mark Buchenfuhrer : will be... - Restless Legs Syn...
Dr. Mark Buchenfuhrer
I just listened to Dr. Mark Buchfuhrer on the RLS webinar this evening. He was brilliant. He knows all that is known about RLS and especially the augmentation that many of us are going through or have gone through. I recommend that everyone listen to this presentation.
Near the end of his presentation he mentioned that the experts are aware of how difficult it is to find a knowledgeable Dr. who is willing to treat RLS with opioids. He suggests printing a copy of an article that he and other RLS experts wrote and taking it to your Doctor. The article is entitled "The Appropriate Use of Opioids in the Treatment of Refractory Restless Legs Syndrome". The article appears to originally been published by the Mayo Foundation and the names of the RLS experts are on the article. Hopefully this should carry some weight with the less informed medical community that many of us have to deal with.
I did print this article and offered it to my doctor to read but she said she had loads of articles to read and didn't need any more. I was disappointed at this attitude
Oh God, I missed it. The link seems to show only part of the article, is that correct?
oh man! sorry I missed this.
The link is complete and the paragraph will print larger so it's easier to read. I watched the presentation live, but the RLS Foundation has it through their Member Portal (membership is $35). At the member portal they list a way to view the presentation if you are not a member. Here is a link to that:
To Swimming2018, I'm so sorry your doctor said she had loads of articles to read. It sounds like she does not want to know. I think Doctors are scared to treat RLS appropriately and have to come up with excuses to avoid opioids. I can relate to your situation as I am looking for a new neuro.
