Hi there I was wondering how many others have had really good success with using supplements for their RLS. My partner had legs that jumped in the daytime and at night I put him on a complex B and his legs are usually really good except when he gets slack on taking supplements.

Howdy!

I'm glad to hear that he gets relief from the B-complex! I would give it a try, but, with all the medicines I'm taking, how would I know if it works?

Exactly - how would you know? I have tried every supplement to avoid the medications offered by docs. Mostly from reading posts on this forum about side effects, augmentation, etc. I suffered 'till I discovered the iron (Ferretin) connection and "solved" the severe RLS symptoms. The RLS insomnia remained. Magnesium (the great relaxer) was paradoxical to me - excitable, and not relaxing. Deciding that the insomnia was a neurotransmitter mismatch - too much Glutamate and not enough GABA (they transform into each other). Every few months I try the supplements again - NAC, NAG, Taurine, Theanine, GABA, Passion Flower, many Magnesium supplements, and others. Of late, I'm trying diet - low carb, higher fat and no processed carbs. B vitamins are important with usually enough in a daily multivitamin. However, the best one I found is B-Right by Jarrow.

I'll try taking vitamin B complex supplements,my blood test showed that I am real low on vitamin D,so my Doctor gave me a prescription of Vitamin D 50,000MG,I took one a week and now with this refill I will start taking one capsule a month. The thing is I don't know if being low on vitamin D,makes my RTS,worse or if my RTS would be this way anyway.

I hope you have positive results when you take your B complex supplements. Please let the rest of us know if they help your RLS ,and if they do the rest of us might try doing that.

I'm taking Iron supplements because, I've been anemic off and on most of my life.Could anyone tell me if vitamin D, and Iron supplements helped their RLS ,and if they helped ,would you please let us know ,Thanks in advance.

It definitely works for my partner. I can't remember but I thought it was B1 that I had read an article about being good for RLS. He has taken complex B for years now and it works very well for him. We have never taken Magnesium until recently...that works well for my RSI in arms.

Iron supplements have made a big difference to my rls. As I understand it, Iron iv transfusions are now the treatment of choice by rls experts in the US as they can alleviate symptoms in at least 50% of sufferers with some experiencing total relief.

Unfortunately no other supplement has had much impact on my rls although my symptoms have been better since I started taking glucosamine which was suggested by someone on here - not with any scientific support at all. It is very likely that the improvement in my symptoms is coincidental.

Many sufferers do report an improvement with magnesium supplements and some - although fewer - with vitamin B12 and D.

Hi ,

I'm taking iron supplements it's too soon to tell if they are helping ,I hope so !

I inherited my RLS my Grandmother and my Mother both had RLS.I seem to remember having it in my legs when I was a teenager, now I have RTS (restless toes syndrome). My toes start jumping ,If I take my ropinirole I sleep all night.

I haven't tried taking B complex vitamins, but if they have helped other people on this site,I'm willing to try them .

HAPPY NEW YEARS 2019 EVERYONE !!

I take magnesium supplements - which also have B vitamins included - I read that a high % of women in the western world have a shortage of Magnesium so I sent for this supplement from NZ (migrainestop.co.nz) I take three caps a day plus a b1 cap - all at bedtime and my RLS is 95% improved!

I have been helped by Magnesium citrate and iron bisglycinate. Good luck!

in reply toWendy1

Couldn't agree more. The iron bisglycinate was a lifesaver in terms of RLS and the magnesium was a lifesaver in terms of headaches. From the above post, I guess they actually put magnesium into a supplement made specifically for migraines. Bet it works too. Gotta take both these supplements most every day though. I can think of worse things to take.

They are so helpful for me . The only downside is that they are not on prescription so cost a fair bit each month. Small price to pay though.
