“Safe” antidepressants

I have weaned myself off Lexapro over the last 6 week’s. It was an effective in controlling depression but IS on the “ do not use with RLS list” and I am noticing milder, less frequent RLS symptoms now that it is out of my system. The negative....depression has become more prominent now. If I’m not mistaken, there are very few antidepressants that don’t interfere with RLS and ropinerole. Is there a list of antidepressants “we” can safely use, or does anyone have good luck with any in particular? I’m assuming my doctor won’t know, so I’m being proactive and going to my appointment armed with a list of the “approved” antidepressants . None of if the old standbys are suggested; Prozac, Effexor, Lexapro, etc. so now what?

This is a perennial problem. Also, everyone has different reactions- often depending on interactions with other medications.

Bearing all that in mind, then Wellbutrin and Trazadone have helped SOME people. But not all.

Maybe worth trying if you haven't done so already.

All the best.

I am presently taking Wellbutrin 200 mg 2x/day. Have always taken A second antidepressant but as I mentioned, that’s history. I’m wondering if Xanax is safe to take for my severe anxiety symptoms. Thanks, Madlegs1

I would look for a natural alternative to pharma antidepressants. They are fraught with side effects and the "discontinuation syndrome" which appears to be depression returning - but it mostly is a withdrawal reaction. Many forms of depression are natural, normal, and temporary. Severe depression may indeed require additional intervention. Good for you that you are now off the antidepressants. Best strategies - exercise (not just a walk around the block, get your heart rate up, fast walking, jogging, bicycle riding,3-4X/week), multivitamin w/B vitamins, Fish Oil ( 2X or 3X suggested dose), avoid alcohol. The best advice I've seen is this... kellybroganmd.com/

I’m doing moderately well with no new antidepressants, but am finding that my anxiety level is VERY high. Can I take Xanax occasionally in addition to my 1.5 mg daily of ropinerole and 200mg 2x/day of Wellbutrin? I’ve Not been able to find any literature regarding anti-anxiety medication, specifically Xanax and how it affects RLS .

Hey! I just want to say kudos for getting off Lexapro! I just failed at my 4th attempt getting off of it (my depression got bad again, which it had done the previous 3 times as well). I hope to get off of it one of these days....
