RLS, tramadol and buprenorphine

Trying to get off buprenorphine which was prescribed to get me off tramadol. I had taken that for 6 years for arthritis. Once I got a new hip I tried stopping tramadol and found I was addicted. I have got buprenorphine down to 0.1 mg (quarter of a 0.4 tab) nightly and my legs drive me mad until 3/4am when I eventually get to sleep.

Doc says I just have to go through it, but the other symptoms of withdrawal, anxiety, flu symptoms, stomach cramping an£ nausea are making life a misery.

I already take high doses of magnesium and iron tablets, vitamins B12, D, C, oxyq10 and turmeric.

I find hot baths help and I constantly get out of bed to do calf and thigh stretches which help for a few minutes.

Any other tips out there?

I find that Australian Dream and/or Capzasin-HP cream really help. I alternate with Magnesium Oil.

I may take a Klonopin at bedtime if needed......

There is a Protochol on the Net for help you to get off Tramadol.

Kratom also helps...............

You may try Lyrica.................

I am getting relief from magnesium oil applied to my calves and massaged in and long compression socks given to me when I had my hip replaced. They don’t get rid of the RLS but reduce its worst effects.

Hi Roubiliac, I really sympathise having been through the misery of withdrawing from oxycontin (which I stayed on a little too long when I took it to alleviate the symptoms of withdrawal from a dopamine agonist I was augmented on). The increased rls was awful but I found the anxiety and panic attacks were the worst. I don't think there is a lot that helps hugely - your GP is probably correct - but I wish I had tried low dose naltrexone at about 0.5 to 1 mg daily, also l-theanine which is supposed to be helpful. It does pass although not as quickly as one might wish. My memory is it took nearly 5 weeks for symptoms to start to abate. Once they started to calm down, they resolved quite quickly. Good luck. Thinking of you.

I spoke too soon!

After Two relatively peaceful nights last night I was awake until sun up with horrible RLS before finally nodding off.

What is it about RLS that seems to make it active at night in darkness?
