CBD for RLS

Hi all. My husband has RLS really bad and no medications seem to work. I'd like to investigate CBD but don't know how much he should take and how often. Any ideas?

Thanks.

Hi Alberta and welcome

What meds is your husband taking now, if any, including over the counter meds ? Some meds or supplements can make RLS worse, like most anti depressants and anti histamines and cough and cold meds.

He should get a full blood test done to establish his serum ferritin which has to be above 75 for RLS.

I take a capsule of CBD oil every night but it doesn’t make much difference to my RLS.

Are you in the UK? CBD oil in the UK doesn’t have any THC, the stuff that causes the ‘high’. CBD oil in the USA in states where cannabis is legal does contain THC and there have been reports on here that it helps.

I’m sure someone will post shortly on the ideal dose to achieve relief.

How about trying Co Q 10. No prescription needed. I took 800 mg each am and no longer have the leg pain that used to wake me up.

Interesting. I have tried CQ10 with no benefits. Can you elaborate on "leg pain" ? RLS should not cause pain as such, it's more like an itch within the nerves. Are you sure you're not suffering from something else?

I checked my med record & verified in My Chart Library it can be caused by diabetes and sleep apnea which I have. I have been treated for both & took Co Q 10 in the process. I also was told leg cramps can be result of taking statins for cholesterol. I no longer take it due to liver involvement. I took 800 mg in am for quite some time before I could go without it. It says in library low levels of calcium can also cause RLS. I hope this helps you.

Thanks Barbara.

Sorry to hear of the other ailments you're battling as well as the RLS.

Best of luck.

It doesn't work. It's good for a lot of other things, but not RLS I am afraid. It is the THC part of the plant which has the benefits for RLS. Someone who isn't me says the THC can reduce the symptoms up to 90%.

I also wrote a topic here, hope it helps:

It does work for some. Not for me, although it did help me fall asleep more easily. And cannabis doesn’t work for me either - it gave me heart palpations, already at a very low dose. Also, I couldn’t take cannabis, as I need to drive frequently and it is illegal to drive with thc in my blood. Mind you, I live in the Netherlands. And I do need a medication for my rls daily.

You are correct cannabis can cause some negative side effects such as increased heart rate, palpitations or panic attacks, so the THC treatment is definitely not for everyone.

I hope CBD does work for some, but I have read and read about it and not once found someone with serious RLS who said it's helped. I spent £60 on some oil and I was very disappointed, it had no effect at all.

All the best.

Nathan.

Try to check on line by entering „RSL and cannabinoids“

You may discover that a one to one mix of CBD and THC works against pain

Not certain about helping leg trembling however.

No this is incorrect. It is unfortunately only the THC which can aid RLS. CBD has many other useful benefits but it doesn't help with RLS annoyingly.

I am afraid the only way to use cannabis to cure RLS is by using the drug.

Also RLS shouldn't cause trembling as such,' RLS is a different sensation. More like an itch you cant scratch inside of your muscles.

I would describe it as it feels like overactive nerves, like your nerves are aggravated and you feel like moving will provide relief, only it doesn't.

That's a good description.

Pain with RLS is now accepted as being part of having RLS.

It would definitely help. You would start with one drop internally and work up slowly to find the right amount. it would help to mix with another oil and rub into the twitchy area.
