Need advice on how to manage rls
I don't take medication. I found a few weeks ago that I have far less RLS if I avoid sugar and sweetened food, especially in the evenings. I've since found that there's a condition where some people can't digest sucrose, so I wondered if I was one of those and bought a packet of glucose tablets to test myself. Being the type of sugar that the body uses directly, it affected me within ten minutes, so it seems that I can only handle sugar when I'm physically active. You could easily try this yourself to see if sugar is causing your RLS.
You need to look at what might be triggering the rls. Keep a food diary.
Get your serum ferritin checked- it needs to be over 100.
Avoid medications that foster rls see list on rls-uk.org antihistamines are a major offender.
Everyone is different - so you will have to find out whats best for your situation.
Medications will initially involve Pramipexole at a very low dose.
But try the above steps first.
Good luck.
I used Co Q 10 800 mg in am. Recommended by a doctor but no need for prescription. I no longer have to take it.

Keep hydrated and try different ideas. If you do hard physical work make sure you quickly replace the salts lost in perspiration. Otherwise don't sit still for too long. I worked for 18 years in shearing shed and I was like a zombie. Running all day and kicking all night. Get rid of coffee if you can. I've heard a warm bath helps but I wasn't in a position to try that luxury. Good luck.
Since a few weeks, every time when in comes up during the day or night ( I take pramipexol for the night, but still it comes up sometimes) I will massage my leg from the hip down. (it always starts in the hip joint area with me). Some 20 to 30 severe, not too fast strokes downwards will do the trick for me, at least for some hours. Another thing that I do several times during the day, is stretching the muscles of my legs, and I am under the impression that that somehow helps. For me it is clear that the rls is at least partialy caused by blood flow problems, and I think these tactics are helping in that field.
