I'm sure someone will be along soon with suggestions.

Some people find magnesium helps and ferrous bisglycinate.

Others find following a low FODMAPS diet stops their RLS.

I'm on the heavy drugs diet as nothing else has worked for me but we are all different and what works for one doesn't necessarily work for someone else.

Hi Joolsg !! In case u want to read this I just posted. Alia22

I am going to send to many of you the following info for RLS sufferers.

Like I posted few times, lately, I have been suffering most of the nights with severe RLS syndrome due to augmentation and not only I could not sleep but my body got so agitated and exhausted that I did not know what to do with myself. Many of you tried to help me with their experience and now I would like to share with you what happened since Friday night.I don't know how I said to myself, let me see if homeopathy has something for restless legs, not really believing that it can help such suffering. So I ordered from Amazon, Boiron (the leading name in homeopathy) Leg Pain Relief (for Restless Legs-Leg

Cramps-Shooting Pain)for about $11.99 for prime members and one day later I received it and took it as they say in the directions and incredible but true, for the first time, in a long time I did not experience any uncomfortable feeling and I slept peacefully without any problem, taking also like usually my Lyrica plus Pramipexole that usually don't help but not this time, thanks to Boiron. So for 3 days now, thank God, I have only justified praise for this homeopathy medicine. Nothing to fear since it does not have any side effect, nothing to lose to try it and please note that I don't work for Boiron or any homeopathy website or anything like that. Before I forget it's called Zincum metallicum 6C and it comes with 2 other tubes (not for RLS) but use only the one for RLS (Zincum...) . On Amazon, type "Boiron for Restless Legs" and a box with Leg Pain Relief will appear and that's the one. Now it's has been only 3 days but I am so excited to feel "normal again" that I cannot wait to tell u about this. Now may be most of you know already about this in case I think I just discovered "America" and if you do already, no harm done, I am the one who spent time writing this and if it can help you, I will be as happy for you as I am for myself right now. Tomorrow will be another day and still hope that this wonderful result will last. write to me if you have any question I can answer about this. All the best to all. Alia22

Alia,

Thanks so much for thinking of me and I really appreciate you taking the time to write to me.

I will definitely try it. As you say, it has worked for you so it may work for me or someone else on this site.

Homeopathy isn't expensive so I will try it and let you know if it helps.

I'm really happy that you've found something that is giving you relief from this horrible disease.

I really hope it continues.

Take care Alia.

Start an intake diary - food drink and meds. You will notice triggers appear.

Get your serum ferritin checked - it should be over 75 or so .

Consider fer bisglycinate 25mg at night on empty stomach with orange juice - do not continue with this more than 3 days without ok from yr doctor.

Magnesium citrate 200mg in evening can help ( don't know how natural that is? Also epsom salts baths and spray help some people.

Google meds to avoid for rls for list.

These will cut out 62.8% of rls symptoms promptly.

62.8%! I love the precision!

You realise , of course, that 73.4 % of statistics on the internet are probably 93.7% inaccurate.

Just saying!😈

I laughed so hard at your comment that I almost fell off my chair!! May be we can add that a good sense of humor can cut out 62.8% of RLS symptoms promptly. Alia22

I'm assuming that by naturals you mean no medicines.

Naturals I use:

Heated electric massage

Magnesium oil rubbed onto the legs. It itches, but that is a sign that the cells are lacking that mineral. Helps with pain, too

Epsom salt bath. You get the same itchiness affect, but the itchier I become the more determined I am to stick it out. Apparently, there is a limit, though, to how long you should soak in the salts. I read 12 minutes somewhere. Helps with pain and "knots", too

A warm shower or bath. For showers I have a head with different water pressure settings. I use either the spa setting or the highest setting, put the head directly up to my legs, and swear I can feel the blood start to flow again! I do the same thing in the hottub at my local pool. I put my legs directly up to the jets; the pounding is amazing! Being huddled up to a jet in a big hot tub might look strange, but I don't care! If it works it works!

Although this migh not be a natural (?) I take Bromelain (pineapple extract). My husband read somewhere that it helps with inflammation. I'm not sure if that is what's helping (I take so many pills that I no longer know what does what), but I like it think so :).

Yoga and tai chi. Exercise is so important for a multitude of reasons; it increases our dopamine levels. My husband read somewhere that tai chi is even linked to cures for depression (which I also have)! Unfortunately my RLS pain has recently spread, so I can't enjoy these things as much, but they helped a lot before!

Distracting yourself. For me it's TV programs. I get caught up in the program and forget about my legs (until, of course, the program's over and I have time to think about them again; the first thought is normally "by George, I'm cured!!). Sigh....iit never lasts!

Take care,

Well, it all depends on what factors contribute to RLS in YOUR case. And of course you can play around with diets and supplements and the like, as doctors do with drugs, to find a relieve for your symptoms. And believe me, guilty of that too.

However, I would recommend to first try and find (some of) those factors, and then get a treatment targeted at those contributing factors. Better than playing around based on assumptions and maybe getting yourself in a negative spiral of other or derived problems without truely improving the RLS. And as I said, guilty as hell of doing just that myself.

Identifying these factors is a challenge in itself! Blood testing (vits, minerals etc -make sure you are given the actual numbers, as GPs tend to conclude "normal"; see ferritin discussions) and an intake diary seems a good way to start....

Many thanks. Will get my ferritin checked out.

No remedies, but I avoid artificial food preservatives.

I essentially follow what Madlegs stated about the Gentle Iron only I do not find the need to take with OJ. My doctor told me ferritin was around 90 + (cant remember exact number) so iron levels should not even have been an issue for me but I decided to try the iron and it worked surprisingly well. What I'm saying is, even if your ferritin is over the recommended 75 for RLS it might be worth trying the iron for three nights as Madlegs recommends.

Thanks for telling us! So it improved tour rls. Would you mind telling us what it was like before and since taking the gentle iron?

Note: gently iron is iron bisglycinate.

Eitheror: Is that 3 nights in a row, per week?

Thank you~

In a row- at first -- although some peopke say to take on alternate nights if taking for longer periods.

But get doctors advice before going long term. Iron overdose is NOT good.

Lash65 profile image
Lash65 in reply to Madlegs1

Thank you. I will keep that in mind.

in reply to Lash65

For me its gotta be every night. There are worse things a person can take for RLS. My doctor knows all about it and when I see him next month I will make sure he checks my ferritin levels again.

LotteM in reply to

Your last phrase: exactly!

Let"s keep in mind, though, that ferritin levels in the blood are still not the iron levels in the brain. And that is what is the important factor, but those are very difficult to assess -if at all. Ferritin in blood is only the best and relatively easy indicator of brain iron levels.

in reply to LotteM

Hi LotteM!

What exactly is meant by iron levels in the brain? RLSers have have too low levels, right?

I know there is a difference between your iron levels and your Ferritin levels, but can you (or anybody) explain to me what that is?
