Can anyone suggest any natural ways of treating restless legs? I can't take prescribed medication due to severe side effects. So I'm just taking magnesium tablets and a magnesium spray. Can anyone suggest anything else to help? X

This is what works for me, but I would only try it once. I take a bio-available form of iron (mine is ferrous bi-glysinate) at night, before bed on an EMPTY stomach. Mostly I would take two tablets, each one had 25mg. It never failed me unless I had a full stomach. Also my doctor checked my blood levels each year and I was never anemic or too high with ferritin levels, or too low. You have to be careful with iron and any of the heavy metals. I guess you could even take it during the day if you have an attack. It never worked for me unless I took the iron at night, right when the RLS was bad. Some people say you can even buy the drug store kind (versus health food store) if you take it with vitamin C to help absorption. Saved my sorry little life. Good luck and keep us posted.

I use copper bracelets that cut my RLS down by about 80%, they are ones made to help RLS by a fellow sufferer, I can let you have more info if you want

I take l-theanine. Its an amino acid. It seems to increase GABA slowly which I find helpful as dopamine agonists make me want to punch people.

I take 400mg of magnesium citrate and about 200mg theanine at 4ish p.m. I then take a dihydocodeine at 8pm. I can't cope without either one of them. I realise the dhc isn't natural but it level I don't seem to developed much tolerance or any addiction.

Everyone is different though. Good luck.

I have commented on a few posts about the natural solution that I have found to be successful. The product is Amacari and our can get it online. The site is camupure.com, and it has worked great for me and at least 2 other people. The product is 100% Camu berries, using the entire berry, not just the juice. It has been use by tribes in the Amazon Rainforest as a natural remedy for a long time. The super high vitamin C, anti-oxidants and natural inflammation fighting nutrients make your nervous system optimally operate. I take 3 capsules in the morning and 3 at night daily. After less than 2 weeks I started to see less twitching. Now I experience no twitching when I go to sleep. I still have sensations to stretch and move my legs when sitting for extended periods (like watching tv) but nothing like it was 5 months ago. I love it, and have a couple of acquaintances that experienced the same results. Keep in mind that not all Camu is the same, this uses the entire berry and has no additives. Good stuff. Give it a try and let me know what you think.

Hi, I've had RLS for about 38 years and was on medication for a while. It was only helpful for a short while and my doctor suggested I have a 'medication holiday'. During that time I read an article about going dairy free so I gave it a go and found it really helped. I also keep off caffeine and wine, which I find will trigger the symptoms. Hope you manage to find something that helps soon.

I have found that eating products with a low-salt content and not adding salt to anything helps me. If I eat something high in salt my legs are really bad at night. I don't know if it would help you, but it's maybe worth a try. Hope you find something that helps you.

Hi Pinkfloyd82,

Have you got a partner who can help you? There is a way to relieve restless legs but you need the help from someone else when you get an attack. Lie on your tummy and ask the other person to massage your lower back and buttocks, very firmly - it hurts! - for at least several minutes. There are nerves that run from the lower spine down across to the outer buttocks and hips and down the legs and it is these nerves that are irritated and cause the restless legs. Kneading the muscles and nerves, even pinching them firmly while you squeal, relieves the restless legs and sleep soon comes. It can be done during the day too, any time it happens in fact. It works every time for me with no drugs at all. Good luck.

I will lay my legs on a vibrating massage pad and that helps me at night so I can fall asleep. The vibrations seem to soothe my legs enough to be able to sleep.
