Botox Injections.

Hi, I have suffered from RLS on and off for years, but it became so severe a couple of years ago I went to my GP for some medication. He first prescribed Amitriptyline, but this didn't work, so I now take 0.0176mg nightly of Praminexole which does work 95% of the time, but the side effects are tough to live with. They can best be described as making me feel years older than I am. I will carry on using it as it is the lesser of the two evils, however, I have read on line about a study that is being carried out in America using Botox injections in the legs with encouraging results. Does anybody have any information about this, as it does sound a very interesting issue?

Botox sounds quite an extreme course of action. How many injections would be needed and how often?

Your Prami dose doesn't sound right- have you an extra 0 in there? Are you taking it in conjunction with the Amitryptoline?

I don't know anything more about the Botox injections than I have posted. I was hoping someone out there might do.

Interestingly the prescription label on the tablet box says " Pramipexole 88mcg (0.125mg)" I take two, which could mean either 0.0176mg or 0.25mg.

Yep- got you now. 88mcg is 0.088mg - which confused me. Max dose for rls would be 3 of those- but preferably not go beyond 2.

Generally they are trying to get away from Dopamine Agonists altogether because of side effects and inevitable augmentation.

Cheers.

As I have no specific info, I don't know how 'extreme' the Botox injections would be. I think a course would be efficacious for a year to 18 months - with no nasty side effects!

If there is anybody out there with any more info, please post.

Wow; never heard of Botox for RLS before. It must be very innovative. Haven't seen it mentioned anywhere. I too would love to know more.

I first posted this post on a study that is being carried out in America using Botox injections in the legs for RLS 6 months ago, and would be interested if anybody out there has hear any more about it since.
