Hi, I have the same problem. I take piriton daily and use creams that help itch like e45 itch cream and a few others and just alternate. I find its when my hands get hot at night in bed so I probably shouldn't but I just hold them under cold water too. It can be a nightmare x

Hi There,

I too have itchy hands at times, and I thought that it was washing up liquid, but found out it wasn't. I just put my hands under cold water, which does help a bit.

Hi sandycharlie,

Long time since I've touched base with the "RSA family". I feel for you. I have had this problem with just the palm of the left hand for over ten years. You are right when you say nights are the worse. I have this dry and tight area in my left palm which is not obvious to the dermatologist as I have dark skin. I have had times when if I could happily chop the hand off at the wrist in my desperation and be done with it. I have even told my doc the same thing.

We have tried every pills and potions but nothing helps. I take antihistamine tablet at nights but I still wake up in the middle of the night with this terrible itching. I have sensitive skin generally and my knuckles are always sore. I can only sympathise and encourage you to continue to moisturise, moisturise, moisturise and take some antihistamine. If you can, use gloves to do the washing up and cleaning. I always forget to use gloves and suffer much because of this. Maybe your GP could refer you to a dermatologist. Hopefully you will have better luck than me. My dermatologist was not interested in anything I had to say so I didn't return to see him after the second appointment and that was about three years ago. He kept telling me I had contact dermatitis but I know it is related to the autoimmune syndrome. I wish you all the best. If I discover anything new I will let you know via this forum. Be thinking of you.

Antihistamine will help relieve any issues with 'contact dermatitis' & alongside that it would be moiturising the affected area though you may be better seeking creams designed for eczema/dermatitis rather than plain handcream. I have always found E45 works well & you can buy Dead Sea Salt brands which can cost a bit but also work well.

I had problem hands for several years until I discovered Urea Cream 50%. In the U.S. it requires a prescription. It has been a miracle cream for me. It has no side effects other than a little stinging sensation if there are breaks in the skin. The improvement was dramatic. I use it now at night to prevent the excema/dermatitis from returning. I found out about Urea Cream thru one of my husband's customers with a similar problem. This was after years of trying countless OTC ointments and prescription steroidial creams that were not effective. I never want to be without it.

Aqueous cream, twice a day helps me, was at drs., about something else and showed my hands said it was mild eczema, I get little lumps on top of both of my hands. Hope this helps
