What's your gain? Time on your hands or weight round your tummy...?

Whether you smoke or not, everyone starts the day with 24 hours. Then those who smoke, give up and then suddenly feel as though somebody has given them a few extra hours in the day.

What do they do with those extra couple of hours?

Many people go into a 'door opening and closing' frenzy.... This consists of opening and closing the food cupboard doors, the fridge doors, in fact it's any doors that might have some tin, packet or bag of food behind them. Even if it's been there for a while, it suddenly becomes another focus for our attention. A great time filler too. It's when it becomes the mouth filler that it becomes the problem!

This is where the weight gains quite often come from. It's not the stopping smoking that has put the weight on us, but the time we gain from stopping smoking. So instead of filling our tummies, lets look at ways of filling our times more effectively :-)

Plan ahead, think about what snacks that you should have at the ready. How about some nice ready to eat healthy snacks, suggestions can be found on Monkey's (Pete's) blog on;

for some tasty healthy meals, why not pop on over to Jilly's Cafe on the following link and have a look at some of the recipes that she has for us there, maybe share some of your own (preferably healthy ones) :-)

So, what is it for you? Is it the stopping smoking that is putting the weight on you, or is it the collecting of more time that's causing you to eat more of the wrong foods?

Weight gain has always been one of my biggest excuses for not giving up smoking but I'm going to do my best to stay out of the fridge, cupboards etc. I'm on Day 3 of being smoke free and I'm so proud of myself! I am finding if I eat something tangy rather than sweet it kills my cravings for a while. I suck on orange segments or drink lemon squeezed into hot water. I'm also keeping a small container of sunflower seeds with me for the crunch factor in place of crisps etc.
