Yes, I’ve had similar symptoms and I’m cold turkey as well, nearly 4 months so similar timeline to you. I haven’t had any body aches but headaches and nausea and exhaustion definitely. Today for example, my cravings are accompanied by ridiculous anxiety. I don’t have any advice per se other than just be patient, stick with it and eventually all the horrible withdrawals will end. Well done for getting to 4 months and continue fighting πŸ’ͺ

Hope you feel better soon 😊

Hi Mlevine, You are not the first I have heard of going through these withdrawal symptoms. However there is no easy solution. Everyone varies with their quit and withdrawal, depending on your general fitness, age , how much you smoked etc.

Sometime smoking can mask certain ailments and its only when you quit you find out.

You probably think if you go back to smoking it will take the symptoms away, but it doesnt work like that. You would just suffer more if you carried on smoking. Your body is adjusting and repairing and cleaning itself. I would try drink plenty of water, breathing exercises to help your lungs heal quicker and exercise. Try some mints or chewing gum and fruit and nuts. If in a while you feel your not improving then get checked out at your doctors, for peace of mind.

Stay with it you will get better. :) xxx

Dear Mlevine

I think you are in 5th month of quit and that also cold turkey .

So basically there is no nicotine in your body (you can do google to reconfirm this fact ) ..

so these craving and side effect are mostly psychological driven (mind games ) and sometime they result into severe psychosomatic (google it ) problems.. where you start feeling severe pain in your body parts.,

May I suggest you to start doing mindfulness meditation if you are not doing it already .

Another thing you can do , whenever you feel like getting craving , start logging your reactions on some notebook , like after a min you get headache and then body ache etc ..

as soon as you start writing down believe me these symptoms will ease out .. you need to just divert your mind and the pain is gone (its mind originated pain) .

One more hint .. craving last for few min(may be max 15 min ) but if headache and body ache are for more Time then it’s not due to craving .

You have already thrown out the Nic from your body now throw it out from your mind as well

All the best you are doing great πŸ‘

I am at 5 months, and have not had an easy ride physically or mentally - but I have definitely improved in the last month. Everyone has a different recovery pattern - some are quick, and some are slow. If your body has had no nicotine for 4 months, you are over the physical effects of withdrawal - so I think your sickness is more likely to be a symptom of the anxiety caused by losing your 'crutch'. This will improve with time as you come to terms with the fact that cigarettes do not, and will not, help you in any way. You have lost nothing. Stick with it - you have done so well. Recovery is just around the corner.
