Has anyone with PSP had similar eye problems? Does anyone have suggestions about treatment?

might be artificial teardrops as it may be caused by not blinking enough, i am trying it out now.Have the same problems, also watering a lot.

My husband has blurred vision, seeing double, red and watery syes,so I am sure it is part of the PSP.We have seen an optician on many occasions ,tried prism glasses but nothing has helped.Blocking of one eye, does help with double vision, found nothing for the blurring.Sorry, but I think this is just part of this ghastly illness. We were told about artificial tears too, they help with the dryness.

Good luck.

Hi - husband has exactly the same problems, I think the best to help is the artificial tears.

My hubby also suffers with watery eyes, blurred and double vision and has been prescribed artificial tears, which do help sometimes. As the others have said, I'm afraid it would seem problems with the eyes are just one of the many problems associated with this dreadful illness!

Take care and God Bless.................SuzieQ x

My mother is taking Restasis drops, one am and one pm. She has vision problems, with increasing difficulty later in the day. The Restasis seems to be providing some relief. She also uses lubricating tears throughout the day. It is prescribed by an opthomologist.

Dear All

This is a common problem with PSP. The centre of the eye becomes dry through lack of blinking and the perimeter of the eye waters, therefore the eyes can become sore and sometimes reddened.

Ask your doctor if they can prescribe Hypromellose Drops or you can buy them -or other similar artificial tears without a prescription from your pharmcist.

Hi there

I am so sorry to hear about your discomfort and visual problems. This can be frustrating as well as uncomfortable. As PSP can lead to a reduced blink rate in some people it is important to use eye drops and to use them frequently and regularly throughout the day. This will help reduce the dryness and the gritty discomfort that is experienced. If you find that the eye drops which you are prescribed are not really helping please consult your GP again as there are various different types of eye drops with different chemical ingredients which work in slightly different ways. It may be another type of drop would work better for you. You may find bright lights irritate your eyes and they become over sensitive and a good pair of wrap around sunglasses can help this problem. If double vision is causing you a great amount of discomfort and inconvenience you may need to wear an eye patch over one eye to reduce the visual distortion. This can be alternated between eyes to make sure that both eyes continue to be used but it will reduce the double vision to some extent. As regards blurred vision make sure you have been checked by your opthamologist /optician and have the correct lens prescription, try not to over strain your eyes by staring at the tv etc for long periods. If you can make your self blink this can sometimes clear the problem temporarily but it tends to be a difficult problem to correct.
