Dear bladesmad

I'm afraid I have not found any solution to successfully amplify the voice once it is dwindling. My husband gained some months using LSVT (loud) training however it doesn't suit everyone and requires much motivation.

My mother-in-law had a very quite voice due to Parkinson's disease and her sons tried several types of microphones but it didn't make her easier to understand and she would get quite frustrated with it.

I wish you the best 🌻🤗

Hi

My husband had several weekly voice therapy sessions but he wasn't motivated to practice projecting his voice with the exercises given.

If you can get your GP to request speech therapy, it might be beneficial in your husband's case.

He now actually struggles to enunciate words, besides speaking softly.

In fact he hasn't been motivated to do any type of exercises and I gave up trying to encourage him. He told me that I was nagging him.

Unfortunately, I'm sorry not a positive response to your question.

Take care, it's a difficult journey

Hi I use a voice amplifier from amazon. It cost me about £40. It's only drawback is the feedback screech. This appears to be random.

Hi,

Five years ago when my husband's voice turned soft I thought it was just age that had done it. It lasted for some while - over a year? Then to my surprise his lovely voice returned without any intervention. Since then his voice has been normal. It is definitely a curious phenomenon.

Hope your husband's return. All the best.

TigerDaughterHi. Good news that your husband's lovely voice returned after about a year having turned soft. Although you say that happened without any intervention, could you please discover from his prescriptions what medication was he taking during that period. Hope his voice is still lovely and will continue. Best wishes to yourself and your husband.

Hi PineEater,

My husband was not on any regular medication apart from carbocisteine and thickener when his voice recovered. He has had more added since -atropine drops, oramorph and lorazepam. Voice is still lovely. More so when out of the blue and a long while not saying much to me he said, 'I just want to say I love you very much.'

These moments are very precious.

All the best to you.

The best option is not a voice magnifier. Try instead a

speech therapist, Good luck

my husband rested a year ago. I miss his voice. I wish I had recorded it when he was better. ..

I was delighted to discover a video from two year before my husband’s diagnosis. He’s behind the camera, but speaks a little and chuckles in his unique way. It’s lovely and I’m still hoping to discover other clips.

I was able to find old voice memos and voice mails left on older phones that we still have around the house. They are nice to have when days are tough.

Bladesmad,

Bergenser' advice above is the best you can get I fear. LSVT is the route we went down with Ruth and it did prolong her voice for a good while. You may be surprised. Daily exercises to increase volume - lots of AAAAGGGHHHs - and then the articulation improves.

Richard 🙂
