The Lee Silverman voice treatment can be helpful for some people with PSP/CBD. However the full course is intensive and each day for a number of weeks and can be exhausting, especially if you have to travel. Some centres offer less intensive courses, it is important to discuss with your speech and language therapist if it is appropriate and what is best for you.

Yes the LSVT Loud program can be wonderful for those with PSP. I am an LSVT BIG clinician and have seen it work well with my clients.

Go to LSVTglobal.com for more information.

Best of Luck.

I feel like we are living with an entire different disease. I cant even imagine speech therapy helping my husband who can barely say yes and no. We use hand signs. I dont remember a time when we knew that he had PSP that he could carry on any sort of conversation. I think he is in the end stages but doctors seem to be clueless. I have him in a clinical trial for davenitide but does not seem to be helping. He could be on the placebo. Seems so cruel.

I took my husband for the LSVT program, 4 days a week for 4 days each, and it made a remarkable difference in his speech. He was barely talking at all in the early PSP stages, and so quietly I could not hear him. That was 2 years ago, and now his voice is loud and it's impossible to get him to stop talking. His throat muscles are much weaker now, so his voice quality is more like a growl, but his volume is LOUD.

Ray, it was a standard 50-minute appointment with a speech therapist at a local hospital. We had homework to do every day, as well. Mostly, we worked on getting him to readjust his perception of the loudness of his voice. He thought he was speaking normally, but was barely audible when we started. Good luck with your appointment.

My wife did the LS course. You can buy the DVD which has all the excercises on it on-line. I think if you do the excercises often and are dilligent with them it might help. Voice doctor told me that the PSP patient doesn't realize they are speaking softly. Their brain is fooled and when they raise their voice to "normal" level it seems to them that they are screaming or speaking very loud. My wife was softspoken to begin with so you can imagine how soft she is now with PSP.
