Several months ago my husband developed a fungal rash in the groin area. He saw the Practice Nurse at our surgery and was told it's Jock Itch. Dakarin cream was prescribed.
However the rash clears up but within a week is back again. We saw the GP 3 weeks ago and he prescribed another cream but it's out of stock and I'm still waiting to collect it.
We were told the rash is due to the moisture in the groin area. My husband has a leg bag so not urine related.
Can anyone offer suggestions on perhaps particular underwear to use or anything else found to keep the area as dry as possible.
Thank you 😊

Please be careful to keep any crevices clean and dry. Moisture leasions can be even harder to heal than pressure sores, once the skin breaks, so worth avoiding at any cost. We found it useful to use a hair drier on cool setting to dry the area after a wash/shower. We found a tea tree barrier cream useful. There was also a herbal anti fungal cream from Amazon which was amazing but I cannot find it now so might not be available anymore.
My husband would use pull-ups as a precaution although he would generally make it to the toilet on time. We switched back to natural fibres (cotton or bamboo) to make him more comfortable, I think the bamboo pants in particularly were kinder to the skin so worth trying.
My husband gets that and we use Bepantham cream which I get from Amazon. It is a barrier cream used for babies but it works for us. Use it daily. It was recommended by our Practice Nurse.
The Practice Nurse prescribed the LBF barrier cream but this doesn't work for a fungal rash. I do apply it though on the buttock area to help prevent pressure sores.
Thank you Luis. We'll certainly give this routine a try.
The new ointment prescribed by the GP finally arrived at the Pharmacy yesterday. It contains a steroid so also isn't a long term solution due to the side effects. However just need to get this latest infection cleared and follow a good routine.
My husband has had a fungal infection in his groin off and on for years. The doctor prescribed Clotrimazole 1% which we use as required for short periods
