Psp and Lurasidone

My mum was diagnosed with PSP about a year ago but has had symptoms for several years. She is currently in a care home. She was put on Lurasidone as a result of paranoia and they have recently upped her dose to the maximum they can give her. I feel both her paranoia and her physical symptoms have gotten worse since the increase. Does anyone have any advice please as to wether this drug is suitable for psp patients? She is also taking 100mg Sertraline. Thanks

Hi, I'm not qualified to answer your question but I do know that paranoia can be a symptom of PSP. I think that the rush to give drugs without fully understanding the complexities of PSP can do more harm than good. My advice would be to contact the PSP Association and ask them. Good luck.

Hello Artybex

Sorry to learn about your mum's condition. It appears to me that you are keeping a good watch on the efficacy of your mum's drugs.

As for- 'I feel both her paranoia and her physical symptoms have gotten worse since the increase', I feel caregivers are the best judge to decide about the continuation or increase in the dosage of any drugs only if they monitor the condition of their loved one with full dedication and devotion. If they have a scientific background, they can very well decide about the continuation, dosage titration, discontinuation or the introduction of new drugs. Unfortunately, I rarely get an opportunity to comment or blog. Best wishes
