Seizures

My husband had CBD he had three seizures last Tuesday in the early hours two at home one in resus. On Saturday he had two more in hospital. The Drs prescribed Keppra. He had been on clonazepam for years fours times a day tablets.

He has been unwell vomiting and we couldn't get the meds in him. So he has a syringe driver with clonazepam higher dose and glyco to manage excessive secretions.

So now he is flat out with the side effects of the meds and probably the seizures.

I have asked for IV fluids during this time to see if he can recover to a point where he can drink thickened fluids and soft foods.

He is risk fed. Peg and NG refused by Drs.

Had anyone else experienced this please.

I have read previous posts which don't appear to be the same.

Thankyou

Sounds like epileptic fits - also based on the treatment. My mum (who had Multiple Sclerosis for more than 25 years) suddenly had such fits and was admitted to a neurological intensive care unit. The doctors gave medication and did some scans, eventually stabilising her condition. She was unresponsive (coma?) for a week.

We were told it was likely the response of all the years of slow damage to the brain. Though this was not PSP or CBD, I think the response from the brain can be similar at late stages.

After one week she suddenly woke up and wanted yoghurt, and spoke to us (both in Norwegian and English). The doctors were amazed at the recovery as they had not expected it.

Because of her overall health issues (she had cancer and had declined treatment) she was discharged to a nursing home and they didn't actively monitor or treat the seizures which continued but not as strong.

I wish you hope and strength in this difficult situation 🌻🫂

my husband has CBD and familial FTD, he has vacant seizures which last less than a minute, he has had them for 2-3 years, he has had 2 major seizures but only lasting for a couple of minutes. He is prescribed lamotrigine and we have just increased it to 225mg twice a day as he started to have 3 vacant seizures one after another, we keep midazolam at home in case of another more serious seizure. They do not know if it is the CBD that is causing the seizures or his dementia. My husband is also risk fed as his wishes were not to have a peg, he often is very sleepy after the vacant seizures. When his dose of lamotrigine is increased he is much brighter for a few weeks, so we are unsure if he is having vacant seizures that we dont know about but it never lasts, he has never had clonazepam.
