Illness, PSP & CBD

Does anyone have any advice on PSP & CBD sufferers and the effect of another illness?

Mums currently got shingles and she seems to have got worse in her mobility in the last few days since being poorly. I’m hoping this is because she’s got less energy due to her shingles.

This week has been tough for me to see Mum so frail and not able to get in and out of bed at all.

Hi, My wife has had multiple infections in the last 3 months and has just come out of hospital after being treated for Aspirational Pneumonia, during this time she has completely lost her balance, she has become very confused and has been hallucinating. She is now slowly starting to improve but may take weeks to get back what she has lost, if she gets it all back. We had a similar experience with covid last year when she lost the ability to eat pureed food and never got it back.so in answer to your question, yes, when the shingles goes she may improve

Thanks that’s really useful, I hope she can manage a little independence for a bit longer. I really hate this journey she’s going through

Every time this happens I see it as a window into the future showing me what is to come, in a funny way it prepares me for what is waiting to happen.

Hi sorry but my experience of mum having other illnesses have been that each illness makes her psp symptoms worse and she then never quite gets back to where she was. The worse the new illness the more it affects her psp. E.g she was walking with a walker until getting sepsis and then never walked again but recovers pretty well from each uti. Her neurologist's advice is to act quickly if we suspect any new illness . This advice has really helped as the GP now prescribes antibiotics at the first hint of an infection rather than waiting for things to get worse

Yes I have this also in mind, but she’s been on antivirals quickly so I’m hoping with a bit of time she recovers a bit

Hi, my mum had a chest infection a week after coming to live with us. She lost most of her coordination such that I could not get her to sit down on the toilet, we would get underwear down but then she would urinate everywhere. I cleaned the wet room 4 times that day and thanked everything that we had gone for a wet room. She also struggled to move - I would get her to move to the wet room when she wanted to go but she would move one leg and freeze. I was so scared that this was how it was now going to be. I know it will get there but not yet!

After two doses of antibiotics she was back to her current state with CBD - mobile but slow and reasonable coordination.

So yes is my long winded answer - being I’ll affects the condition.
