Hi, Stress can make a healthy person confused and not think straight so I can only imagine what it does to a person with PSP.

To give you an idea of how the brain of person with PSP can be different, have you seen on these A&E programmes on TV when a person is traumatised and when asked their name they reply 24, or London; my wife goes like this when she has a fever or cold.

Regarding the voice, the more practice hopefully it will help to keep it longer but if it is declining then it will only get worse, please consider banking the voice before it is too late. pspassociation.org.uk/infor...

yes to both. Speech therapy helped for a while.

Hi AvonJane!

Agree with Zerachiel and easterncedar.

These the informations and experiences we have:

"Some patients with PSP/CBD gets stressed when he has too much stimulus whether it be audible or visual. Crowded public venues for intance. Multiple person conversations that progress too quickly make anxious some patients. The stress manifests with uncontrollable laughter & crying. At this situation an advice: "Simplify, simplify".

*Symptom control: Most people only take medication for symptom control.

• Control of palliative medication against depression, as well insomnia and anxiety. In our case, one pill of Sertraline-50 at breakfast (depression) and one pill of “Lorazepan-1mg” (insomnia and anxiety), one hour before dinner (*). Of course all these drugs were prescribed by a physician. After around 6,5 years with this medication no appreciable side effects on our case.

(*) I have read that to improve the patient's sleep are using "Melatonin" successfully. Others use “Trazadone”. Ask physician.

A light dinner helps to control insomnia. Also a moderate walk (with aids) or wheelchair before dinner helps to generate a natural fatigue that helps fall asleep.

Some include a dose of 3 to 6 mg of CBD Oil (20/1-CBD/THC) via subling, usually before dinner, to stimulate appetite, reduce anxiety and as a co-adjuvant analgesic in neuropathic pain.

In periods of patient more intense anxiety some increase the frequency of the dose by applying it before lunch and before dinner on the same day. If you are interested see:

Unequivocally, yes. I practice speech exercises a minimum of twice a week.
