Confusing reply from CHC

Hi everyone,

I have asked Mum’s nursing home to do ChC application, the manager said he would fast track it and I emailed the home to enquire about the process (I had been involved in completing the application) and he replied with this

“Just to update that I have had confirmation from OCC this morning that your mum has been triaged for FNC state funded and that the funding is on their system.”

I am confused!! She already receives the Nursing funding. I replied that she already receives Nursing funding and that we want them to do a full ChC assessment. Has anyone else received a response like this? Or I’m wondering if the Nursing home has made a mistake with lodging the application.

Thank you!

We are at the same stage of the process with the nursing home completing the paperwork for us. They’ve not asked us for any paperwork or info. Mum already gets FNP too. I’m going to chase them up and see what they say. They weren’t hopeful about being successful so would be interested in other peoples applications and whether they were successful.

I've had 3 applications declined, the latest with help from PSP. The notes they keep are of the upmost importance as even in the meeting it looked as though mum would be getting it the last time.

A panel make the final decision and they seem to rely on the notes from the carehome.

My mums notes all say although she is complex, she is lovely and easy ro deal with. She can't speak and can only put up a thumb.

Due to this they have no indication of how far her dementia has progressed. She isn't demanding as she does have the means so the manager thinks although she has so many other needs going on, she'll never get it. She's lost over 3 stone in as many months, won't have a peg and is even finding the liquidised foods hard to swallow now.

A bit grim bit the manager also said there are people with full funding nowhere near as complex or ill as mum.

It seems a bit of a lottery tbh. Good luck, I will be appealing qhen I can muster the energy.

That is frustrating and hope you get some clarification from the nursing home soon.

Can I ask how quickly the home applied for FNC and how much care she needed before it was granted. Such a minefield! Thanks.

After the last CHC which was 28 days after she was placed in the home we got the decline CHC but they said she was getting the NHS element about 180 per week I think. They said the local authority would get in touch over a full financial assessment which was mid March. Still not heard anything, the home are being paid via local authority and they will be putting a notice on her home. My brother lives there but has just ipted out of everything including any visits or calls with mum. Lovely ! Sorry that's not much help x
