Can anyone advise on a wheelchair to transport my mum safely? She has CBD and her legs and body are so stiff they don't bend properly.

My mother is 82 years of age and was diagnosed with CBD around 7 years ago so i think her condition is quite advanced now. We used to be able to take her out of the house using a wheelchair, mainly for visits to hospital, dentist etc. but as her condition has advanced so much her legs and body are so stiff our wheelchair isn't safe anymore to transport her. Her legs don't bend properly so won't sit in the footrests and end up dragging on the ground. It's not so bad when going backwards but it's definitely not safe. Does anyone have someone like this needing a special wheelchair to get around this? And will the local council provide this is i consult an OT?

Hi, I don't know if you are in the UK or elsewhere but you do need to get a proper OT wheelchair assessment. There are tilting/reclining wheelchairs that will allow for your Mum's immobility issues. I have 2 friends who had wheelchairs like this for their husbands but they were both adapted differently. Unfortunately it took some time for them to get them so you need to act as soon as possible. Good luck. AliBee
