I wanted to share the daily dose of Sam, our 5 year old Newfoundland. He is such a daily dose of joy for my Mom. Newfies are known as the “gentle giant”, and that he truly is.
My Mom is the “snack shop” - he comes to her a couple times every day, sits in front of her and softly displays his desire for a snack; she always has a little snack bag with her (tucked in her wheelchair).
So this is “Sam” ... our joy.

Our neurologist told us that a dog would be great for my wife, so we adopted a bonded pair of older dogs. There is definitely a medicinal and calming effect of a pet.
I’m incredibly grateful that she is able to express herself, I cherish this daily. I’m anticipating so much change —- but for now, going to fiercely search for joy in each day!!
I grudgingly took my husband shopping with me today. I was on the hunt for something unique and I knew that I would be touring multiple shops. I forced myself to slow down and just hangout with hubby. I was “Fiercely” looking for something positive to hang onto. I’m always about a half an isle ahead of him and i got a huge kick out of him when I turned around to see how far he was strolling behind me. To my surprise he had stopped and was vigorously shaking a snow globe. I watched him set the globe down to admire the snowflakes. Then, he shook it again and he was literally fascinated. So yes, I enjoyed the moment and I’m glad that I brought him along with me today. It was a good day!
I’m about to shut down for the night, and I saw a notification of your post! I’m glad I read this - what a way to end my day! This is awesome! ((Hugs))
I have never known a Newfoundland personally but have always loved them.
I have a golden doodle that is more human than dog. He is such good company for me especially since my husband passed away 2 yrs ago. I would be much more lonely without him!
Another tale of JOY.....Our house has been so quiet since we lost our 15yr old Italian greyhound, Tessa....being in our 80s, we didn’t think we should rescue another dog but our daughter, owning a dog rescue and a farm animal sanctuary brought us the perfect little 7/8 yr.old long haired chihuahua ....she has bonded with me but since my husband has PSP, Susie spends most of her time sitting in his lap ....it has been the best medicine for him...they adore each other and it’s really a JOY to see....dog are excellent therapy !!!!
