Are you aware you can claim a 25% reduction in council tax for severe mental impairment, that includes people with cbd/psp. How many have successfully claimed, and it should be a retrospective refund from diagnosis.

We claimed years ago, my husband has passed away now, it was not difficult and they backdated it as well, have to get a doctor to sign the form and make sure the doctor put the date of the start of PSP xxxx

Bedford Borough made it really difficult. I still work as I have two children to look after as well. As I earn money they wanted teams of paperwork filled out. My wife has a full time Carer will I’m at work and the costs just mount up.

Slough council denied us due to there being 3 adults in total including my father with PSP

Like Yvonne, we successfully claimed and had ot backdated to the date the Consultant gave us the PSP diagnosis. It was very straightforwards here in Cotswold DC.

My Mum lived on her own and this was the simplest / easiest thing we claimed. A short form taken to the Drs to sign (who didn't even charge !), back dated to start of PSP, sent off to the Council and everything she had paid in the previous 3 years was refunded & no further bills.

That sounds great .... so I might get £900 back? Do I apply to the town or district council for the form, and what's it called? Thanks for that encouraging info .... am already wondering whether futuristic mobility aids or a supply of best ice creams is most relevant! Timbow xx

It's whoever you pay your council tax to, so in Mum's case East Cheshire Council. Good luck, if you get the money I think split it between something pratical (mobility aid) & something indulgent (ice cream 😋). xxx

All ur advice appreciated and relevant - many thanks AJK. I have checked the rules and very I am too damn healthy to be eligible for rebate. Largely I reckon from spending £4k a year on complementary therapies, specific exercise classes, supplements, etc, to slow down the progress of PSP. It's a life adventure and challenge ...... next stop is LIon's Mane to repair damaged brain tissue. x T x

Dealing with taxes is very difficult because there are so many outstanding opportunities. In any case, you can't run away from taxes, which means you have to get used to it. I did it thanks to knowledge from playlouder.com/how-to-incor.... This resource has been helping me for a long time to cope with some problems that troubled me in the tax system. This tool bails me out until now, and it means that you may also be helpful in finding a solution to your problem.
