The effectiveness of CBD oil varies with each case. It may or may not be of any benefit. All you can do is try it and see if it helps.

As Jeff says, you could try it but a word of caution; check it out with your medical team first. Some time ago a lot was spoken about CBD oil on the forum and I mentioned it to my late husband’s neurologist. It was a definite no no as in some cases can lower blood pressure and thin the blood. If my husband’s blood pressure had gone any lower he would have been predisposed to more falls. Also, he had low platelets so not good if the oil thinned his blood. This may not be a side effect for all but I always say check first before self medicating. It could also interfere with any other medication that you are on. I have no doubt that for some this oil has provided some symptom relief but in others made no difference - just make sure it’s safe for you to try it.

This looks like a properly researched and documented case study undertaken by professionals - look at all the References! So it should be taken very seriously as it shows spectacular improvement in someone with severe PSP symptoms. This is different from all the discussions on this site about CBD oil as this is full spectrum cannabis oil that they are talking about - i.e. with the bits that make you 'high' are included. As such, this oil is illegal in the UK and much of the world. Also you cannot buy it direct from the Brazilian producer ABRACE without medical referral.

But I think it is well worth seeing if one could get hold of cannabis oil from wherever. The dosage is 2 drops under the tongue at night initially, doubling the dose on a weekly basis. As it is at night the patient is unlikely to suffer ill-effect from the 'high' element (i.e. greater risk of falling) if indeed the dosage is enough to make one high.

(By way of reinforcement, I do know of a PSP/ CBD sufferer who says that they feel more articulate when they have smoked cannabis).

I would think this is definitely worth trying out if you can get hold of cannabis oil.

I am in the US. I can get CBD oil, but not cannabis oil. My husband is in the later stages of PSP. He has been unable to speak for 2 years , except for saying a couple words twice after recent general anesthetic.

I may be able to get a couple cannabis gummy candies.

Frankly, his quality of life is so poor, we have little to lose.

I would have to give such a small dose, it may be difficult to know if it helps.

Thanks for your input. That’s amazing.

I think it is definitely worth trying as this looks like a properly researched article and is the only one I have read where there has been such an improvement. You will clearly need to do it for a least a month. Let us know how you get on. Hope it works for you.

Will let you know! Hi

I now have bought some Rick Stein cannabis oil from the internet for my wife. It is not like oil though - it is more like sticky Marmite spread (not sure you get that in Canada!). So it is difficult to get the dosage right. First night she definitely felt high - which was not unpleasant but maybe affected her sleep. Do you feel the high effect on the dosage that you are on? (Wish I was in Canada!)

No not at all

Thanks for that - I thought that should be the case. I have reduced her dose for the past 2 nights and she has not felt high. I will let you know how she gets on. It would be amazing if it did make a difference as I don't think anything else has.

Hi,

Hope you doing as well as can be hoped.

No real change in Ruth after 4 weeks of taking Rick Stein oil at night. She is a bit disappointed but I might try another type. Any change with you?

No change after nearly two months.

Stopping now slowly.

That is a shame but no surprise as there has been no other drug yet that made a significant difference. I will keep Ruth going with the cannabis oil for the moment as she does not want to give up yet. If she does show any sign of improvement I will let you know.

I have been giving her 3 drops of CBD oil morning and night as well that I will continue. Again hard to say if it makes any difference, but overall her decline has been slow and her mood pretty good - so negative effects.

Thank you for sharing. Hope you can keep smiling!

Richard
