Mum is rapidly approaching her 87th birthday and nephews & nieces are asking for present ideas and I am struggling a bit as so many things are now not appropriate, so wondered if anyone out there had some suggestions. I also thought a number of us must be in this position with Christmas (sorry) coming up so have included what I have thought of so far & what has worked well recently:
room scenter
scented shower gel & hand cream (body lotion out as she has epaderm prescribed)
poncho or wrap - easy to get on & off, but already has a selection and also throws/blankets but they are excellent for in the wheelchair
muff - already has but is fantastic as saves fiddling with gloves & holds her supply of tissues, has a cord that goes round neck so doesn't fall off, she has a lovely furry one and it's almost like having a cat to stroke.
clothes - she has plenty really, though a new top or nightie I guess is always ok
flowers/plants- she can't see that well but maybe something that's strongly scented, Scilly Isle narcissi maybe if they are in season this early.....
scarf - again has a load but a new one is nice
And then I dry up, all food ideas are a no no as she is on a pureed diet.
Has anyone any suggestions?
Thanks in advance

Wow... All of your ideas are excellent !
Recently my friend's step mother celebrated 100...
My friend asked all of her friends to send a card...
A teacher told her class & the children made birthday cards...
You have a lot of good suggestions yourself. I would add comfortable/warm slippers, something that is easy to get on and off.
Recent photos of family members and then an album to put them in. I know you said her vision isn't what it used to be but it would give her something to look at.
A blanket or cushion printed with older photos of pasted events, ie her wedding day or first photos of her children, grand children ..etc.. we did it for my mum,.. she had it wrapped round her when she died...Brenda xxx
I like both of those and think I will add lipstick to the list, she has a lovely carer at the moment who helps her with her make up at lunch time (Mum's aim got a bit off one day with the lippy and it ended up round her neck, wasn't the look she intended at all, so now her carer helps her out)
Thinking of the scented tissues, I found some moist facial wipes in Waitrose which are rose scented, they are a lovely way to freshen up quickly after lunch has travelled rather further than it should!
