Eye partially closed (sometimes)

A few times recently I've noticed my husband's left eye (everything on his left side is affected more than the right) is partially closed. He wakes up this way sometimes and this evening I noticed it even though he hadn't been sleeping. I've read that "eye problems" (not blinking or closing) are one of the PSP symptoms. Can anyone weigh in on this?

Yes, apparently so, my husband's left eye is very droopy. He has just had a botox injection to help improve this, but not sure of its efficacy. Apparently, it's due to the Palsy bit of PSP!

Hope this helps

Anne

Mom's left eyelid did the same as your hubby. When l would question mom she said she was unaware of it. Seems it is a commom issue with PSP.

My hubby used to have his eyes closed for most of the day, he found it hard to open his eyes and keep them open for any length of time. Though as with everything else PSP related he could have better days too!! This seems to be quite a common occurrence with PSP others have difficulty blinking and struggle with dry or watery eyes. As Anne mentioned Botox injections are often used with some success.

Hi Journey,

To add to your info gathering: the H.U. Search function isn't the best: I often can't find older relevant posts anymore... However, sometimes you can find them by searching Google and adding in PSP and Heath Unlocked (Thank you Kevin!) When I did that for PSP and eye problems, lots of relevantt stuff incl old HU posts came up!

Good luck

My husband definitely had a problem keeping his eyes open.He would actually pry them open with his hands! He got regular Botox injections for this- they helped a little but not much.

This is very much a symptom of PSP. My husband does it, too. At his first visit with the Movement Disorder Specialist two years ago, he questioned me about this specifically, indicating that it is common in people with PSP.

My hubby’s eyes are puffy and one is more swollen than the other. The surrounding skin area often looks yellow and droopy too. It doesn’t matter how much sleep he’s had or hasn’t had, his eyes are always puffy. He often closes both eyes when he’s trying to concentrate on word findings or just trying to make sense of things. I’ve heard that with PSP the eyes stay straight ahead and that the eyes don’t move left or right. Do you find this to be true? My hubby’s eyes move left and right and he doesn’t have PSP. His most recent diagnosis is Lewy-body, presenting as CBD.

Yes a very big symptom of psp, my brothers left eye and his body is far weaker than his right, also most do not blink their eyes, or one or both eyes do not close all the way, psp is such a dreaded disease, saw symptoms a couple years before he was diagnosed that was 9 years ago, it’s been a long hard battle. This common symptom is called blepharospasm. There is treatment for this if this symptom is disturbing to your husband.
