We have a new gadget which has literally changed my life!!’ I know I sound like a sales person here!! But I wondered what other gadgets/kit out there others have found really helpful. What else is missing from our lives??
Two weeks ago we had a bed sensor installed on my husband’s hospital bed. When he starts to get up the pager goes off and I can get to him before he falls. He has not had a night tome fall in the bedroom since it was plugged in!!!
He always takes a couple of hours to settle and usually I stay close by to prevent falls but with this new gadget I have spent the last few evenings pottering in the garden - the sweet peas are coming along beautifully with my nightly watering etc.
I cannot believe I had not heard of this gadget until s couple of months ago. So what else gadget wise has been helpful to others - what is missing from our lives??

That sounds brilliant! In hospital we had a floor mat with sensor beam which only activated when a foot or whole body passed through beam! Not terribly satisfactory as the fall had already occurred. Mat and lowered bed meant my love did himself little damage on landing, but it was sometimes quite a while before nurse aids came to put him in bed again, and he was often cold and wet.
So pleased this great gadget is allowing you some peace of mind and garden therapy! Is it expensive?
C had a bed sensor in the early years and one on his chair and another on the floor under his feet. My favourite was the visual baby monitor with two cameras. C could talk to me and I could talk to him as well as get to him in time if I saw he was about to get out of his chair or bed.
Just the title of your post brought up a bunch of "gadget" posts from the past! Great reading - lots of ideas that still work, - as well as your sensor recommendation ...
Hi, Steve had both a bed sensor and one for his chair. But the thing I found the best, was a wireless bell, from the local hardware shop. He kept the push button in his hand and could press it anytime. Had one for the toilet as well. Meant I was able to give him a bit of privacy and not worry (too much) about him being able to call me. Thankfully, he only used it, when he did need me, because I know some, just keep their finger on the button! So be warned.
We have our internal doorbell which works well most of the time but I have been known to confiscate when pressed to check my response times overnight!!!!!
Hi, I had heard about the sensor and will keep it in mind. My personal favorite gadget is the pill alarm on my phone since I tend to forget. I also got a baby monitor, but mike loves to “read” with the iPad and headphones. It keeps him busy for hours😊
Any ideas about how to stop the head scratching and thumb rubbing ????? His poor head is so beat up.
Strange my hubby scratches his head ++ he has scabs which he cannot leave alone. We treat with steroid cream. He blames his CPAP mask halter which I have now covered in soft cotton. Now you have me thinking this may be PSP too.
This disease seems to attack so many parts of the body arrghh
Funny, W scratches his head also and his bald patch was covered in cuts. Then once I saw his hand go up I would tell him to stop. Now cuts are healed and scalp clear. I now use Bio Oil to keep it moisturised so no dry scalp to scratch. But it wasn't only his head, it was also the back of his hands or any cut he got on his arms or legs. Again once they healed, Bio Oil was used. Hopefully we are on top of it now.
We had one for Archie but again he would try get up but not out of bed altogether so I was up maybe till 2ish before he would settle for 4 hrs in the end we had a bed rail on his bed so he could not harm himself . He didn’t like it but it gave me peace knowing he couldn’t get out
