After battling this evil illness for so long, my best friend and soulmate of 50+ years has gone. He died at 8.30 yesterday morning. We have had lots of laughs over the past days remembering all the mad, happy things we all did together as a family and with many friends and although he showed no signs of hearing it all, we just hoped he would go with lots of happy memories.
He went without food or liquid for 9 days and it was awful for us to see but he was in no pain. We made sure we stayed with him 24/7 for the last days so he was never alone.

You have been on this site a long time now NanBabs, given loads of advice, now it's your turn to listen. Take very good care of yourself, use your hard learnt caring skills on you. This side of PSP, is just as hard, plus you first have to recover from the last few years. Grieve in your own way and at your pace. Let others look after you for a while.
We are all still here for you, arms around you, holding you tight.

You have my deepest condolences. He was with his family at the end and not in pain.
Oh Nanbabs, what do I say to you? He is safe and free from all the horrors of this disease now. I love that you had your family there with you and you spoke about happy times. I am sure he heard you and inside had a little thank you for being such a great wife and family.
You have been a great carer and always did your best. Sleep when you can and be kind to yourself now. Big hugs to you and family.

I am so sorry. What a lovely thing to do, talking about good times and silly times. Like packing his bag for a journey so that he doesn't go without. That thought brought tears to my eyes.

I am so sorry to read that you have lost your soulmate. This is such a difficult time and seems an impossible feat to go on and take care of ourselves, but I'm sure we'll all go on.
I, too, lost my love on Thurs. and am trying to get through it. With memorial day holiday, our funeral is on Thurs AM. Such a long time.
I hope you will take others advice and take care of yourself and try to recuperate from all of the stress you've no doubt endured, although glad to do so.
I'll be watching for all the responses so that I too can benefit from the help.

Oh Nanbabs, I feel so much for you. you were here when I started posting on here, it has been such a long journey for you, but you have done so well looking after your husband.
You need to try and look after yourself now, I know you feel awful, and there is so much to do, but you really need to look after yourself right now. You have done everything for so long.

I feel a little lost at the moment but my family have been terrific even though they are grieving too. I am accepting all the help offered and sleeping so much more than I have been.
So sorry to hear your sad news NanBabs you have been posting on this site a good while now and now you find yourself having to tell us that your soulmate has left this world and you are left to grieve. It seems it was a good death for him surrounded by those he loves, so important in my mind. It's hard isn't it, I lost Ben just over two weeks ago and I still can't get used to the fact he's not here any longer. I wander about the house having to force myself to do the tasks that have to be done when you loose someone, many I should have done already but I just can't find the energy to do them. I spend much of my time staring into space waiting for tears to flow but they just won't come. I think we all react differently when we loose the person closest to us. I'm sending you a big hug and know that we are all here to support you.
I am so sorry you have lost Ben. I cried so many tears over the last 3 years that I didn`t think I had any left - until I heard "Love is all around" on the radio earlier this evening and after listening to the words that felt so appropriate, I cried some more as I was driving.

I'm so sorry for your loss but he is free now and rest assured he is by your side helping you through your grief, as you helped him through his illness.
I realize that I am the 40th person to tell you this, but my heart does go out to you with the loss of your best friend. I wish you strength and comfort as you go through this final stage of this ugly disease.
We often reminisce over the good times also. It helps us to realize why we go through this
I am so sorry to hear that you have had to say goodbye to your soulmate, but I can only guess he is in a better place now, free from this horrible disease. It is now you that needs to heal. Reading your lines I reaffirm that when society improves, it does so thanks to beautiful human relationships, fine rain and intense rain of solidarity, the quiet and conscientious work of anonymous professionals, the good actions of many good people.
