My GP didn’t know either so I printed details and a photo of a suction machine out and handed it to him saying my husband needed one. I rang him a week later and he said he had handed it to the district nurse. A couple of weeks later the DN rang to ask if she could come and arrange a training session. I rang Crossroads and asked if the two sitters he had could also do the training. 3 of us did it so they could use it as well. The DN left the machine with us. I trained the night staff.

I hope you get one.

Thank you , I thought it was Dn but as they had signed my wife off as soon as the community matron left her post I was not hopeful of their assistance.

Some things aren’t worth the hassle and the fight when you can just take action and buy it yourself. Amazon has several. Here is one that’s only $153 US. smile.amazon.com/Secretion-...

As i was reading your post yesterday evening and thinking I have previously responded to a similar post. My wife's throat began to fill up with phlegm and she started gurgling. We sent the suction machine back ages ago and have been relying on Hyoscine travel sickness patches which last for 72 hours. Her patch was due to be changed this morning. I didn't take the old patch off I just put today's patch on (12 hours early) and the excess fluid cleared up within half an hour, I was able to go to bed in peace and this morning all is fine.

I need to add that my wife is also on Glcopyrronium bromide also to limit secretions. This is a controlled drug administered by District nurses via a Shringe driver.

We were advised the suction machines actually dry out the mouth too much, thus causing further problems, Leon (hubby) had Botox into cheeks and under chin, worked amazingly, lasts about 3 - 6 months, everyone is different, but certainly made a massive difference for Leon, hope this helps
