My mum is having a Peg fitted tomorrow. We're in hospital and she began choking on very thick saliva in her sleep. It was impossible to get her to a state that she could try and swallow, just glad we were in hospital when it happened as the nurses quickly cleared everything. I think it is time for a suction machine as the normal meds are not working anymore. I was hoping to get some recommendations as to which would be the best to get. Any advice welcome as usual. Thanks

Suction Machine Advice
I don't think we can sell stuff here and I'm sorry I caan't give my stuff to you...im too broke...
I used DeVilbiss suction. the battery pack type is loud!!!! but it works till they need water, if you know what I mean....Devilbiss also has aso has a Quiet Aide which is just as good though MUCH quieter.....I was sent the first thinking that was it, I made a sound proof box for it...but this only worked for awhile until dad (B, my husband) could no longer open box and turn machine on. So I got the quiet aide......why didn't they give this to me first...oh well now I had two....the electricity went out briefly rendering the quiet aide useless.....because the loud one had a battery pack it was still useable not for long 90 minutes? So my suggestion to you is buy a DeVilbiss 7305 Suction Series along with a Quiet aide 7341...
With the quiet aide you can attach a plug that has an on/off switch more accessible to your loved one. However if there is ever a breech in electricity you will have the loud one for an hour or so....
I hope this makes sense ....if not write me

I agree with abirke, you need the portable one with the built-in battery, as you never know when your power may go out, plus you can use it in your car and while traveling. Here is a link to one place that sells them. Pretty affordable, although many insurance plans may cover them, although they may require you to rent them (at least in the US). home-med-equip.com/catalog/...

Hi Sue
Unfortunately, my brother moved my parents to the Far East (when Mum could still travel) to live with them so we're no longer under the umbrella of the NHS. I'm visiting and it's a different world. Makes you really value the NHS despite its problems, really can't fault free care. Thanks anyway. I wouldn't mind knowing which make the NHS gives.
