I'm sorry not to have advice for you. I know the question of persistent hiccups has appeared in this site before, but don't recall a solution. I can imagine how awful it must be. I wonder what pills were prescribed?

thanks for all your replies it seems the hiccuping has now stopped I presume the tablets (lansoprazole) did the trick in the end.

easterncedar has a very good memory!

Four years ago there was a discussion (Heady / Nader).

The solution (?) came from a speech therapist. She thought that it might be the swallow reflex getting off the a bad start and possibly throat dryness too.

She recommended taking some sips of water before starting to eat.

Do come back and tell us if this helps.

Best

Kevin

My husband with PSP had a problem with persistent hiccups a couple of years ago. We found that a spoonful of sugar helped more than anything else we tried. Being a real sweet tooth he liked this solution. As I recall, the problem went away in a month or so. Hope this works for your husband.

My husband also got intractable hiccups in the hospital and we are getting ready to try thorazine. It is exhausting as he is also recovering from sepsis and a UTI. Not sure if the antibiotics caused them. Did not realize that sometimes it can be a PSP related thing.
