He has a Parkinson’s like disease. That got mentioned this morning on the news. My first thought was which one? Three years ago this information would have gone right over my head. I searched around to see if what he has is mentioned anywhere. No luck. PSP?
I found it. Bush has been diagnosed with a rare condition known as vascular Parkinsonism.
Have searched here for 'vascular Parkinsons' and there was a thread 2 years ago. One comment said the diagnosed was revised to PSP. So it is part of our knowledge of Parkinsons Plus.
I also looked it up on Michael J Fox' website. That I found even more interesting, as I could relate symptoms to those of my husband.
John had high blood pressure, diabetes, dicey cholesterol, lousy diet and sedentary lifestyle (all despite my good cooking and getting him to join a gym!). He also had athersclerosis which lowered his heart rate to a frightening degree and he was given a pacemaker. An MRI scan showed atherosclerosis in his brain. I specifically asked that question before CBD was considered as I wondered if he was likely to have a stroke. During his hospital stay towards the end, the doctor sent him for a CT scan as she suspected he had had a stroke. Nothing showed up. Don't know if an MRI would have shown more info.
All these Parkinsons Plus diseases are so difficult to determine. In a generalised way it is not as important to get a specific diagnosis, but is very important to have recognised the need for increasing care as the disease develops.
Mr Bush has been getting that care, and no doubt that will continue. As to whether his current diagnosis is revised, we probably will not know, but we can all relate to what he and his familywill go through!
For my part, I now find it irrelevant whatever was wrong with my love, other than a beastly disease that took him from me. And I take heart in the possibility that the current AbbVie trial may give others a chance to push back some of those effects, and at some stage will challenge similar diseases as well.
