Just watching the Daytona 500. JD Gibbs passed away a few days ago "after a long battle with a neurological disease at age 49". I really wish they would name what it was to bring more attention to these diseases. I appreciate that they had other causes they wanted donations to go to, but I hope they will eventually mention what he specifically suffered from.

I agree............

I should be grateful that my son (who died of PSP at age 55 years) lived that long instead of focusing on that he died so young.

Gibbs mom was Latina too.

Wow I also was watching the race when I heard that JD Gibbs 49 had pass from a neurological disease, I immediately started googling about him to find out if he also could have possibly had one of our dreaded diseases (psp, CBC ) which I know all diseases are horrible, but I have a close and personal hate toward psp !!! Anyway... my understanding is he played football as his dad coached a team that went to the super bowl 3 times ( panthers I believe ) so he supposedly suffered a brain injury from playing football that stemmed to his neurological disease. You never know!

If it was sports brain injury disease than it would be CTE....still one of the 6 PRIME OF LIFE BRAIN DISEASES..........I do hope a brain autopsy was done (or even if not done) and that it will be shared the SPECIFIC brain disease he suffered.

JD was diagnosed with a neuro-degenerative disease around the time my husband was diagnosed with PSP. I, too, have always wondered if it was possibly PSP. I don't believe his illness was football related. It is so sad to see someone so young die from one of these diseases. It certainly would be helpful to call attention to these little known diseases. I've been keeping my ears open hoping they will eventually say what it was.

It's imperative now that when a loved one, yourself (if you suffer) that you insist brain failure is listed as the cause of death. PSP, CBD MSA or other as the underlying cause. Most doctors will never understand unless more awareness and emphasis is placed on neurological disease.

Has anyone ever wondered if this was from brain damage induced by psychiatric medications?
