CHC

I have a social worker calling tomorrow to go through the CHC check list. My main concern is that mother will get up and walk unaided although this almost always results in a fall. Will this prevent the claim?

I am very much aware how extremely difficult this is to be awarded but feel the time is right as I am currently on long term sick and desperate to get back to work. However I work with female offenders so it’s impossible to do if I am seeing to Mum 6 times in the night. Any advice would be much appreciated

Kind regards Sarah x

Hi Sarah

This is so important.

If it is a social worker from Social Services she is there to do the social services side of the CHC Assessment. They have an input into the CHC assessment the crucial part being whether or not your mother falls withing the legal limit of what Soc, Serv. are legally allowed to provide by law. That is the boundary between Soc. Serv. (means tested) an CHC free at the point of delivery.

If it really is a Checklist it will be by a nurse from the CCG . They are the gateway into Continuing Health care.

Time is short so read this before the assessment - Please.

Sign up on the right hand side and read about Checklist.

Adding getting CHC is a fight. They try to exclude everyone they can. They just don't have the funds.

So answer every question with the worst that is going on. Lay it on thick.

If you get through the checklist there is a second more complex stage. Please do come back and I will give you further information as to how to manage that.

Best to you

Kevin

Kevin as usual has the handle on the paperwork!

My personal note, and I don't live in UK, is that should your mother get up and walk unaided and fall, she must surely demonstrate a few boxes that need to be ticked! No doubt there will be boxes for Impulsive, Independent, Won't take instruction, Needs supervision, and Is a danger to herself if alone.

Bless her! I commend her for her determined independence! Long may it be able to last - with supervision!

Hugs

Walking and falling are positives for CHC. It's good if you can demonstrate frequent falls (diary or hospital admissions?) and if she shows her impulsivity in getting up that's a huge risk factor.

Good luck with it
