My mother has PSP and she has problems to drink water. She close the mouth and she doesn´t want to drink. She´s starting with kidney´s troubles.

Do you have any answer for that? How can give her some water?

I am very sad because it´s candle that it is blowing out everyday.

Thanks in advance for your comments,

Hello agustintp

Has she been able to say why she does not want to drink?

I wonder if she is frightened of choking?

Have you tried thickener?

Can you get a speech therapist or SALT nurse to assess her.

As you will be aware, fluids are essential to bowel movement, and as you say kidney function.

Sorry this reply seems vague, it must be very hard for you both.

Best

Kevin

Very sorry, agustin. You are in a difficult place. I think you may need to accept that this is the beginning of the end. If there is some quality of life for your mother worth fighting for, you could have IV fluids, or try to use a syringe to get liquids in her mouth, or if she eats you can try to feed her moist foods, but refusing to eat and drink is sometimes the last act of will a person can perform, and it is right, I think, to consider what you are fighting for now, and whether the fight is what is best for her. I sympathize with all my heart. Love and peace, ec

Sometimes people who close their mouths are ready to let go and die. Can you request a hospice consultation?
