T.V. in Nursing Homes

Hi folks

Someone posted a question about T.V. in Nursing Homes some little while back and I thought to post what we have done.

I don't know if this applies outside of the U.K.

Both Nursing Homes I have seen recently use a terrestrial digital signal - Freeview. Its captured by aerial and not a satellite dish.

My aim was to record all of the programmes that Liz likes and that way she can watch them as she wants.

Many Smart T.V.s come with Freeview programmed in. Add in an external drive and they can be set to record shows.

We went another route and used a Humax terrestrial box. Simply we plugged the aerial into it and joined it to the T.V. display via an HDMI cable. This box can be programmed to record any show.

The advantage of the box is that Humax are about to release an app. which will enable the box to be programmed and even controlled remotely. They already have this for their satellite box and that works very well.

I hope this is of some use

Best

Kevin

Very useful Kevin was wondering how to record programmes on the smart tv. You are definitely “The Font Of All Knowledge”. Thankyou. Jxx

That's really useful information. Are you a gadget kind of guy?

Not really - I only got a T.V. for Liz a year or so ago... It was a bit of shock and a steep learning curve. My last one was forty years ago!

I do tech. stuff though. When I returned to the U.K. after being overseas for a long time I needed to catch up with computers etc. My brother advised me to get a PC built by a certain guy. It went wrong all of the time, but as I was at the wrong end of the country I had to learn to fix it myself.

One day I said to him what a bad bit of advice that was and he replied that he knew the guy built faulty machines and I had said I wanted to learn. That's brothers for you eh?

Nah, I'd love to say that I'm Einstein, but it was a case of buy the bits and plug them in - They set themselves up.

Sounds complicated to me !

I got a NOW TV box for P`s room, it connects to the Wi Fi at the home and I subscribe to the Sky sports channel with a monthly payment (no contract - just month to month). He has always watched sport on TV, I just wish I had heard about this sooner. There are other packages too - movies etc.

I live and learn!

This works in much the same way.

Do we have a PSP HU IT department in the making?

Amazing what you can do these days, can Liz operate a tv remote control herself, Ben just can't do any of that stuff now.

Love kate xx

No, but some of the carers know how to work it. She gets by with some frustration.
